We are establishing a 24 month appointment pool for vacancies that may arise. We may offer permanent, fixed term, full time, part time or casual appointments, with the possibility of a further term and/or permanency.

To be considered, you’ll need to have:
At least 5 years recent industry experience in the field you want to teach;
A certificate or higher level qualification for your field of expertise. In order to teach a certificate level or diploma course you’ll need as a minimum, to have that level qualification yourself;
Current knowledge of and connection to your industry including a strong industry network of others who work in the field. You know how your industry is evolving and you regularly update your skills and knowledge to keep pace with important changes and the latest developments; and
A desire and ability to help others learn, develop and boost their skills for employment and career progression.
We are currently seeking lecturers with expertise in one, or more, of the following Art and/or Design industry areas:
Fashion and Textile Design
Product and Industrial Design
Interior Design
Graphic Design
Visual Art
Jewellery Design & Manufacture
Print, Signage and Graphics
To be successful in a role, you will ideally demonstrate current skills, knowledge and extensive industry experience, the ideal candidate will inspire and guide students shaping the future of Art and Design within each specialisation as outlined below:
Fashion and Textile Design
Recent industry experience/practice in garment pattern making, construction, alterations and the fashion product development process. Well-developed practising knowledge of fashion specific software including Gerber, Acumark, Alvanon, CLO3D; different fabric surfaces, print, dye and production processes; excellent knowledge of the repeat printing process and strong drawing skills; experience in fashion marketing, fashion buying including use of eCommerce platforms and knowledge of distribution, logistics and supply chain management.
Product and Industrial Design
Recent industry experience/practice in contemporary product design and development.
Well-developed practising knowledge of Rhinoceros, CAD (Fusion 360) and the Adobe Creative Suite. Understanding and experience of production processes (CNC and additive manufacturing, 3D Printing) including sound materials knowledge.
Interior Design
Recent industry experience/practice in residential, retail, commercial and hospitality interior design. The ideal candidate will inspire students with innovative design solutions and a deep understanding of contemporary trends across various design sectors. Well-developed practising knowledge of AutoCAD, REVIT, Lumion, Enscape, Sketchup and the Adobe Creative Suite.
Graphic Design
Recent industry experience/practice in digital as well as print design, web design and UX/UI Design. Well-developed practising knowledge of the latest version of Adobe Creative Suite; digital illustration using Procreate and Fresco; Digital Photography; Generative AI; 3D design with knowledge of Sketchup, Blender and Adobe 3D Package; UX/UI Design prototyping with Figma; Web design using WordPress, Squarespace, WebFlow and online web publishing formats; motion design using AfterEffects; knowledge of industry best practice and knowledge of current trends.
Visual Art
Recent industry experience/practice in areas of Drawing, Sculpture, Ceramics, Painting, Printmaking, Digital Art, Arts and Cultural Administration, Art Theory and current understanding of Public Art. Well-developed practising knowledge of working with a range of students from school aged students, Certificate II qualification levels and above. A good understanding of how to train students in contemporary art making processes, including the theoretical underpinnings, and how this links to real life practice and transferrable skills.
Jewellery Design & Manufacture
Recent industry experience/practice in jewellery manufacturing, contemporary approaches to jewellery and or object design. Well-developed practising knowledge of jewellery manufacturing skills from the trade jewellery manufacturing qualification (including stone setting); contemporary jewellery design skills; Rhinoceros 3D software and the Adobe Creative Suite; CAD-to-3D printing and casting knowledge.
Print, Signage and Graphics
Recent industry experience in Signwriting, Display, Fabrication and Vehicle Wrap.
Well-developed practising knowledge of operating signage equipment (Plotter, CNC Routers, Large Format Printers, Laminators and Laser Engraving machines); signage manufacturing up to industry standards, Graphics application to a wide range of substrates including advanced vehicle wrapping skills; onsite installation of signage and graphics.
Well-developed practising knowledge of software knowledge of the latest version of Adobe Creative Suite; with other signage software including Signlab, CorelDraw and Profile lab (CNC) a distinct advantage as these are required to operate above machinery.
Emerging New Media Specialists
NMTAFE Art and Design is committed to remaining at the forefront of contemporary visual art and design by embracing a wide range of emerging and interdisciplinary specialisations. The school encourages applications from individuals who bring innovative perspectives and technical expertise in areas such as projection mapping, 3D printing, and the academic use of generative AI and large language models. These technologies are reshaping creative practices, and NMTAFE seeks to foster a learning environment that reflects this evolution. In addition to technological innovation, NMTAFE values applicants who demonstrate a strong understanding of the intersection between design, communication, and commercial strategy. Skills in social media and digital marketing are particularly relevant. Likewise, ability to navigate both traditional and digital packaging design is also highly regarded, especially when it incorporates sustainability, user experience, and visual storytelling.
Experience in out-of-home advertising is another area of interest, as it highlights a designer’s ability to create impactful visual messages in public and large-scale formats. By welcoming a broad spectrum of design specialisations, NMTAFE Art and Design aims to cultivate a dynamic and future-focused educational environment that prepares students to thrive in the rapidly evolving creative industries.
Other design specialisations may also be considered by NMTAFE Art and Design portfolio.
The lecturer’s primary role is to teach, facilitate learning, assess and mentor students in accordance with relevant curriculum and/or training package requirements. Lecturers also undertake Professional Activities and Activities Related to Delivery. In order to maintain quality educational services, lecturers are required to keep abreast of technological and other developments in their field through professional development to provide up-to-date information and advice to the College and industry, where appropriate.
