The Transport Analysis Unit (TAU) collects data and undertakes research and analysis to provide objective forecasts and advice that informs policy, planning and investment decisions across the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR). TAU does this by providing transport intelligence, data insight and assurance services including modelling, data collection, preparation and analysis, statistical consultancy and survey design. TAU's data, analytical tools, surveys and models are utilised across many parts of TMR as well as external government agencies and organisations to enable strategic decision making.
In the role of Senior Analyst (Integrated Performance and Insight), some of your responsibilities will include:
• Supporting the Principal Analyst in developing data analysis and visualisation to support TMR's benefit realisation and performance management processes.
• Providing technical expertise in data analysis and visualisation techniques and tools relevant to transport decision making, including specialist software and programming language such as Alteryx, Tableau, Python and SQL.
• Preparing visualisations, reports, presentations and briefings on transport problems, trends and opportunities to support policy, planning and investment activities. Communicating complex information to non-technical people both orally and in writing.
• Consulting with stakeholders and incorporate stakeholder feedback in the development of deliverables. Working collaboratively with other units within TMR to promote departmental goals and achieve outcomes for stakeholders.
• Planning, managing and delivering projects in line with team's objectives, ensuring timeframes, cost, project governance requirements are met.
To thrive in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:
• Applied skills in data analysis and visualisation.
• Demonstrated experience with developing performance metrics and performance reporting.
• Ability to carefully consider and evaluate new and existing data sources, taking care to identify and account for both known and potential limitations.
• Displays rigour in analysis by testing and validating the integrity of data, and confidently reporting on the quality, accuracy, and reliability of findings and conclusions.
• Although not mandatory, familiarity with any of the following technologies would be desirable: cloud-enabled BI/visualisation software (for example, Tableau), ETL software (for example, Alteryx), programming languages (for example, Python and SQL), cloud platforms (eg, Amazon Web Services).
• A degree from a recognised tertiary institution, or equivalent experience, in data science, geospatial science, information technology, engineering, mathematics, economics, or other related discipline.
