ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Coordinator Wooree Miya, this position will work within Wooree Miya Refuge to provide intensive support and holistic case management for women and their children living in the refuge.
As a senior member of the team, you will carry a caseload of complex families active within the refuge. Prioritising risk and safety, you will work through a process of engagement, assessment and planning, intensive support and transition back to community, promoting self-determination and safety in all aspects of service delivery.
You will promote healing within self and the mother-child bond by promoting secure emotional connection, while providing a mix of parenting, advocacy and practical daily supports. The support you provide will assist mothers/caregivers to resolve personal and child related issues and build resilience and capacity to respond to crisis and identify safe, protective environments for children and improve connectedness to the community.
Your support will be flexible and tailored to client needs. The intensity and duration of support may increase or decrease as client circumstances change. This will enable the refuge to assist women and children to begin rebuilding their lives by assuring:
Mothers/carers are assisted to access safe, supported accommodation with a focus on responding to their views and concerns appropriately, and in ways that promote the preservation of their dignity.
Children and young people are treated as clients in their own right with a focus on responding to their individualised needs, views and concerns appropriately.
Mothers/carers are provided with direct support and assistance to access appropriate services to enhance their safety and wellbeing, increase their awareness of FDV.
Mothers/carers are assisted to access services, including therapeutic, education, health and community recreation services for accompanying children.
Mothers/carers, children and young people have increased skills to manage future problems.
You will be an active contributor to the continuous improvement of the service, model practice excellence and promote the learning and development of your colleagues.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
A bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology or related discipline or 3-5 years of significant relevant experience in an FDV / family support setting.
Considerable experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to promote healing and family safety and wellbeing.
Understanding and knowledge of the issues and challenges experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in the context of Family and Domestic Violence.
Exhibits a comprehensive understanding of trauma-informed care, child development, and evidence-based interventions in a clinical setting.
Possesses advanced clinical skills and expertise relevant to case management, enabling comprehensive assessments, interventions, and outcome monitoring.
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in order to deliver a quality service and achieve client outcomes.
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and act decisively.
Demonstrable commitment to empowering and respecting children and young people.
Demonstrated ability to provide safe environments for children and young people and protect them from abuse and neglect.

National Police Clearance (dated within the last 3 months)
