The McGrath Cancer Care Nurse role is a valued and well-established role at Mildura Base Public Hospital

The position is supported by the McGrath Foundation

Applications are sought from suitably qualified Registered Nurses with preferably previous Breast Care Nursing and/or Oncology experience to work with the Oncology team at MBPH and surrounding area.

Where you’ll be working

Mildura Rural City is located in the northwest of the Loddon Mallee region known locally as Sunraysia on the banks of the Murray River. Mildura Rural City Local Government Area (LGA) encompasses the towns of Mildura, Robinvale, Red Cliffs, Werrimull, Ouyen, Underbool, Murrayville and Manangatang. The Wentworth Shire LGA includes the towns of Wentworth, Buronga, Gol Gol, Dareton, Euston, Balranald and Pooncarie. As a result of our geographical location, patients may have to travel large distances for treatment in tertiary centres, 550 kms to Melbourne & 400 kms to Bendigo and Adelaide (SA). As a tri-state health care provider with a focus on the Northern Mallee, MBPH services parts of New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria, we have a unique role to play in the provision of health care and the social fabric in our region. While our geographical coverage is large, so is the demographic we service. What you’ll be doing

The role of the McGrath Cancer Care Nurse (MCCN) Advanced Breast - CNC Grade 2 is to provide specialist nursing care, information, education and support to patients diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer.
The McGrath MCCN is a highly skilled and motivated practitioner who will utilise expert skills, knowledge and experience to work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team according to the complexity of care required and the individual need of the patients in their care.
Workload will be mainly self-generated and this will be achieved through extensive interdisciplinary collaboration across primary, secondary and tertiary health. The McGrath CCN (Advanced Breast) is a clinical expert in advanced breast cancer and functions as a resource person to patients, carers, families, clinical services, and community agencies.

The McGrath MCCN will deliver a coordinated, evidenced-based, seamless, and patient focused approach to care through specialist educational resources for patients, carers, and staff. The patient -centred, holistic nursing care provided by the McGrath MCCN is consistent with the approach underpinned by the McGrath Model of Care.
The McGrath CCN (Advanced Breast) directly reports to the MBPH Oncology Nurse Unit Manager. They maintain a close collaborative working relationship with the MBPH Oncology unit, Treating Teams, and the MBPH Multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Essential Criteria:

Post Graduate qualifications in breast cancer nursing, oncology, or palliative care

AHPRA Nursing Registration Division 1

Minimum of 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience as a registered nurse with at least 3 years recent full time equivalent experience in Oncology, Palliative Care or Breast Cancer Nursing. Experience in breast cancer/care nursing is essential to be renumerated at this classification.

Selection Criteria:

Demonstrated ability to assess, plan, initiate and manage complex cases at an advanced level.

Demonstrated understanding of the physical, and psychological needs of patients with metastatic breast cancer.

Understanding of common treatment regimens for metastatic breast cancer

Proven ability to implement change and develop direction in clinical practice by the use of evidence-based research and best practice principles

Excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills and the ability to provide, information and education effectively to patients, families, and carers.

Demonstrated effective organisational and time management skills and the capacity to successfully manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated excellent collaborative, leadership, and teaching skills.

Experience in the development, implementation and review of policy, procedure, and guidelines

Experience in strategic and clinical service planning
