About the role
Mater Private Hospital Brisbane Perioperative Unit is currently in search of enthusiastic and experienced Registered Nurses with Scrub/Scout experience to join our team in the theatres. We are seeking availablility from 0.6 (3 days per week) - full time.
We have permanent positions available with an immediate start. Our successful candidates will be expected to work on a 7-day roster, including both early and late shifts, weekends, and public holidays. Additionally, they will be required to participate in an on-call overnight roster on a rotational basis (please note that night shifts are not mandatory for this role, but participation in the on-call roster is required).
Our Perioperative Unit specializes in a range of surgical areas, including general, gynaecology, robotics, plastics, urology, vascular, orthopaedics (including spine), and neurosurgery. Salary range: $41.73 - $53.53 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
- Responsible for setting up the operating room with the necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies for the surgical procedure
- You will work closely with the surgical team, including surgeons, anaesthetists, and other healthcare professionals. You will pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon as needed, anticipate their needs, and maintain a sterile field
- Monitor the patient's vital signs, provide comfort and support, and ensure their safety throughout the surgical procedure
- Accurate and detailed documentation is essential. You will be responsible for documenting all aspects of the surgical procedure, including the patient's condition before, during, and after surgery
- Follow strict protocols to maintain a sterile environment, including proper hand hygiene, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, and ensuring equipment and surfaces are properly cleaned and disinfected
- Achieving optimal patient outcomes throughout the patient journey and continuum of care
- Demonstrating exceptional clinical expertise and knowledge of procedures and the management of patients seeking outstanding care
- Implementing strategies to ensure that quality and risk management are integrated into service provision
- Working collaboratively with the perioperative team to provide exceptional care every time
- Maintaining current knowledge and skills to ensure continued professional growth
About you

Other skills and experience include:
- Current AHPRA nursing registration as a Registered Nurse (no restrictions)
- At least 3-4 years’ recent Scrub/Scout experience
- Ability to work in an ever-changing and fast paced environment
- Experience in major orthopaedics, spinal surgery, neuro surgery and robotics will be highly regarded
- A strong work ethic, positive attitude and willingness to role model and promote the Mater values
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to liaise with a variety of different stakeholders both internally and externally at various levels
- Demonstrated ability to operate both in a team environment and autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning and strong listening, negotiation and decision-making skills
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Commitment to ensuring the levels of service is always delivered to patients at all times
