About the role

As the Senior Land Services Officer – Plant Biosecurity, you will be both in the field and in the office as you:

  • Facilitate training and provide advice to enhance the awareness and skills of stakeholders, community groups and staff to prepare for, prevent or respond to identified priority plant pests & diseases
  • Establish collaborative partnerships between key regional stakeholder groups, including farming systems groups, agronomists and farmers, to improve plant health management and support preparedness for potential plant pest and disease outbreaks
  • Attend key community and plant industry events, including GRDC Updates, Farming Systems group events and local field days to promote plant health & biosecurity awareness and best practice
  • Develop information packages and resources to assist farmers and industry to better understand how to prevent or reduce the impacts of new plant health threats and better manage existing plant pests and diseases
  • Contribute to the development of local and regional plant pest & disease management plans
  • Liaise with Department of Primary Industries & Regional Development (DPIRD) for the design, development and coordination of surveillance programs and community education campaigns targeting high priority exotic plant pests & diseases
  • Promote and support rapid response to detection of new plant pests/diseases and weeds of both agricultural and environmental concern.
  • Participate in emergency plant pest & disease responses

About You

We're on the lookout for a highly motivated and well organised individual to undertake critical plant health and biosecurity coordination and management initiatives in the Region. As part of the team, you'll be responsible for delivering projects, programs and advisory services that address the North West Local Land Services key plant health and production objectives, while aligning to national, state and regional plans, and our local plant biosecurity priorities.

This role is crucial in safeguarding the NSW economy, environment, and community through best practice agronomy, plant health and pest & disease prevention. As well as supporting staff and customers to improve emergency planning, preparedness, response and recovery relating to plant health & biosecurity threats.

To be successful in this role, our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Experience as an agronomist or plant industry technician is preferred but not essential
  • Current driver’s license and willingness to travel
