Foster & Kinship
Join DCC Industry Group as we launch our newly awarded Foster & Kinship Care Program in Queensland’s South West region.
DCC is proud to have been selected to deliver a new Foster and Kinship Care Program across the South West region of Queensland. This opportunity reflects our commitment to delivering culturally responsive, community-led, and person-centred care that empowers children, families, and carers.
About the Role:
As a Recruitment, Training and Assessment Officer, you will be responsible for the recruitment, assessment, and training of foster and kinship staff across the DCC Industry Group. This role ensures the selection and preparation of carers capable of providing therapeutic, trauma-informed care to children with significant behavioural needs. You will conduct comprehensive assessments, deliver targeted training, and work closely with multidisciplinary teams to maintain high standards of care and placement stability.
A critical aspect of the role is equipping carers with the skills to support children and young peoples’ goals, including behaviour management, emotional regulation, educational engagement, and family reunification. The position requires a culturally competent, strengths-based practitioner committed to achieving positive outcomes for children and young people in out-of-home care.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement strategic recruitment plans for Foster and Kinship Carers in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Manage initial enquiries and provide personalised, timely responses to prospective carers.
Conduct carer screening, assessments, and home studies in accordance with statutory and program requirements.
Assess carer suitability by evaluating risk, capacity, and strengths in providing safe and supportive care.
Deliver the Quality Care Training Package and develop tailored training based on individual carer needs.
Provide ongoing development and support to carers to strengthen their understanding of trauma-informed and child protection practices.
Maintain strong, supportive relationships with carers to promote motivation, retention, and quality of care.
Ensure accurate documentation, data monitoring, and compliance with legal and organisational policies.
Collaborate with culturally specific agencies and community partners to ensure inclusive, culturally safe practice.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Minimum of two years' experience in child protection.
Proven ability to deliver and evaluate effective training programs.
Skilled in assessing carers’ capacity to provide safe, quality care, with an understanding of family dynamics, child protection, and risk factors.
Strong knowledge of child development, trauma impacts, and practical strategies to support children in care.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills for working with carers, Child Safety Services, and stakeholders.
Effective in managing conflict and emotional responses, with sound problem-solving abilities.
Informed understanding of the Child Protection Act, particularly regarding cultural safety and working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
