What you'll be doing
- The Westmead Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) is a specialist inpatient mental health facility designed to provide assessment and treatment for women with severe mental health problems in late pregnancy and up until a child is 12 months old. The Mother Baby Unit provides innovative, holistic, best practice, multidisciplinary care that is parent and infant centred, family and carer inclusive, and culturally sensitive.
- The Social Work position provides a critical link between mother and baby, and mental health / social services. Thereby ensuring that the mother, infant and family needs are identified and provided with psychosocial/ mental health referral and follow up within the perinatal timeframe. The position offers therapeutic and psychosocial interventions (including facilitation of group interventions) as indicated. The position will be expected to work as a member of the clinical team at the Mother Baby Unit. Clinical work will occur within the context of a multidisciplinary health care team that delivers collaborative care with the consumer and their family.

Essential Requirements
- Qualification: Post graduate degree in Social Work (Masters, and/or Doctorate or PhD)
- Registration: Registered with Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
Selection Criteria
- Must hold a degree in social work and eligibility for full membership of AASW with experience at Level 2 or higher, with demonstrated specialised knowledge and experience with perinatal mental health.
- Demonstrated clinical knowledge, skills and clinical experience delivering targeted psychological therapies and psychosocial interventions in perinatal mental health.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills working with women and families with complex care needs including knowledge of the impact of mental health problems and mental illness in parenting, parent-infant relationship, and infant development.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in recognising and appropriately managing child protection concerns and demonstrated knowledge and skills working with NSW MHA (2007) and the MHCIFP Act (2020)
- Experience and demonstrated ability in building and maintaining professional and therapeutic relationships through the application of written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrated ability to apply and share expert knowledge with colleagues and other health professionals to enhance service delivery as well as demonstrated experience and ability working in a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to identify opportunities and lead the planning, implementation and evaluation of service delivery innovation incorporating continuous improvement, evidence-based practice and research.
- Demonstrated high level organisational, prioritisation and time management skills in an environment of competing clinical and administrative demands. Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including collaborative stakeholder consultation.
