When you work with the RFS, you join a passionate team committed to protecting our neighbours, the wider community, and the environment from the threat of bushfires and other emergencies. With over 70,000 volunteer members and staff, we embody the spirit of mutual respect, support, friendship, and camaraderie. We are one team with many players, united by a single purpose. If you share our passion for community service and environmental protection, we want to hear from you! Become a part of our mission to safeguard lives and our cherished NSW landscapes.

We are looking for motivated, community-minded individuals who are passionate about emergency services and want to make a difference. As part of our Mitigation Crews, you'll play a vital role in frontline operations, helping to protect your community by reducing the risk of fires. From supporting the AIDER Program to preparing hazard reduction activities, Cultural Burns, and firefighting support, you’ll be involved in a range of rewarding initiatives.

We value the expertise and knowledge of Country that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can bring to the Service. RFS recently formalised our commitment to Reconciliation with the launch of our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan. To support the progression of the action items within the plan, we have engaged a RAP Working Group comprised of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Members and Non-Indigenous members, from all areas, roles and responsibilities across the Service. The aim is to promote Reconciliation within our sphere of influence, strengthen relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and stakeholders, progress RAP projects and initiatives and improve Cultural capability in our service delivery.

Members have access to the Mitigation Aboriginal Support Network (ASN) and a dedicated Aboriginal Programs Coordinator will provide support during the recruitment process.
