About the role

As the Principal Transport Structures Engineer, you will play a key leadership role within the Transport Structures team, reporting to the Coordinator Transport Structures. You will be responsible for delivering expert engineering services and ensuring compliance with local government policies and standards. The team manages a diverse portfolio of transport infrastructure assets, including, bridges, culverts, retaining walls and landslips. This role involves providing technical engineering services including providing high-level technical advice and guidance on structures, renewal programming and project planning activities.

Key Position Responsibilities

· Lead planning activities for complex structures rehabilitation and renewal projects in accordance with project management framework.

· Lead assessments of bridge and major culvert structural capability to accommodate oversize and/or over mass vehicles as requested through the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator process.

· Expert management of structural assets such as bridges, culverts and other civil structures.

· Undertake professional engineering services as an RPEQ.

· Identify and document potential risks to the asset base (such as durability, user safety etc.)

· Maintain a risk register and develop effective mitigation strategies to address program risks.

· Prepare and manage assets which require additional management plans (SMPs).

· Provide subject matter expertise on enquiries in relation to the asset portfolio.

· Be responsible for ensuring identified defects and issues are appropriately managed in accordance with organisational risk framework.

· Support the Coordinator – Transport Structures to facilitate ongoing asset management maturity initiatives.

· Develop and maintain open and transparent working relationships between internal and external stakeholders, team members and customers.

· Promote continuously improving procedures, work practices and standards of delivery consistent with City Infrastructure improvement systems.

· Be part of a working environment conducive to achieving quality outcomes through effective management of organisational change and new and unexpected challenges.

We’re looking for people who have:

· Bachelor Degree of Civil or Structural Engineering or the equivalent experience or qualification.

· Engineering Registration with Professional Engineers Queensland as RPEQ.

· Unrestricted Drivers Licence Class “C”.

· General Construction Induction Card (White Card).

· Experience in structural engineering, particularly bridge planning, inspection, and rehabilitation of structures.

· Knowledge of relevant structural and transport standards that can be used in effective decision making.

· High-level of interpersonal oral and written communication skills, including an ability to address meetings, facilitate groups, and prepare effective reports.

· High analysis capability, seeking all relevant facts, analysing issues from different perspectives, drawing sound conclusions and proposing workable solutions.

· Bring new ideas and challenge the status quo to bring about continuous improvement.
