As the Advanced Clinical Coder, you will be acknowledged as having high level clinical coding skills and knowledge, across a broad range of specialties in a tertiary setting, through extensive on the job experience. You will accurately assign specific morbidity and procedural classifications to patient episodes to meet data reporting requirements of Queensland Health and undertake coding quality and auditing activities, and mentor and assist in the training of new and existing clinical coders.
What you'll do
You will employ a range of advance skills to Abstract relevant information from the patient record (electronic record/paper) and all available clinical information systems and code complex cases to assign accurate ICD-10-AM and ACHI codes in 12th Edition (soon 13th Edition), to episodes of care for all allocated specialty discharges within designated timeframes. As part of the coding process, you will complete Queensland Cancer Registry notifications and collect/flag clinical indicator and audit data. Under the direction of the Coding Manager, you will mentor and assist in the training and supervision of new and existing clinical coders and respond to coding queries at an advanced level. You will actively participate in Health Information Service related coding quality activities including coding quality audits such as ABF and DRG targeted audits, ACHS data validation audits, HAC and VLAD audits, Electronic Validation Application (EVA) error review and ad hoc audits as assigned by the Coding Manager and Assistant Director ABF and Coding.
About you
We are searching for someone who has:
- Demonstrated ability to effectively code and audit ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and compliance of clinical coding within the State HIM and Clinical Coding Team.
- Ability to plan, develop and implement ongoing coding quality education activities to enable the growth and development of both new Graduates and team members for the State HIM & Clinical Coding Team.
- Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification in the Classification of Diseases and Operations (ICD-10-AM) with an appropriate registration authority.
