The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has opened up in the City Environment & Sustainability department for a Senior Environmental Planner. Reporting to the Coordinator Environmental Services, you will provide leadership to Council’s environmental planners and coordinate the provision of high-quality environmental planning advice and responses to protect the natural environment in our rapidly growing municipality.

As a highly skilled environmental / biodiversity planner, you will also utilise your strengths in strategy, collaboration and influencing others to lead organisational policy and process change to support biodiversity and environmental outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the work of Council’s environmental planners, fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.
  • Provide high level technical expertise and leadership in the areas of biodiversity, environmental assessment and environmental planning.
  • Develop procedures, policies and systems that support Council’s strategic and statutory planning processes and contribute to the development of environmental strategies.
  • Monitor and report on Council’s performance relating to biodiversity, the natural environment and environmental planning matters.
  • Support compliance investigations by coordinating site inspections, providing expert advice and representing Council on compliance matters.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, natural resource management or related discipline.
  • Substantial environmental planning experience in a growth area.
  • Highly developed biodiversity and native vegetation knowledge and ability to conduct and analyse complex ecological assessments.
  • Demonstrated experience in policy, process/procedure and strategy development.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Current valid Victorian Drivers Licence.
