The Centre for Advanced Transport Engineering and Research (C.A.T.E.R.) is a multi-disciplined engineering company based in Wangara (Perth northern suburbs), specializing in the design, manufacturing, and maintenance of advanced rail inspection systems.
We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Motor Mechanic to join our growing field operations team. This FIFO position will support the maintenance and servicing of specialized vehicles and equipment critical to our operations in the Pilbara region.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
You will be part of a friendly, professional, and supportive team in a dynamic and well-regarded small business. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, safety-conscious, and reliable, with a strong mechanical background and experience to work in remote or FIFO environments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance on diesel and petrol-powered vehicles, including 4WDs and specialized rail inspection systems.
Diagnose mechanical faults and undertake repairs in a timely and safe manner.
Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and inspection reports.
Liaise with field technicians to ensure operational reliability of vehicles and systems.
Assist in the preparation and mobilization of vehicles for deployment to remote sites.
Perform basic fabrication, welding, or hydraulic tasks as required.
Follow company safety protocols and contribute to a safe and efficient work environment.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Trade qualification as a Motor Mechanic (Light or Heavy Vehicle).
Strong mechanical diagnostic and repair skills.
Current Australian Driver’s License.
Ability to work autonomously and as part of a field team.
High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
Sound computer literacy for basic reporting and communication.
Commitment to safety, quality, and professional standards.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Experience working with rail or industrial equipment.
Air conditioning and auto-electrical skills (advantageous).
White Card, Working at Heights, and Confined Space tickets.
Familiarity with BHP or similar mining operator site requirements.
At least 1 year of work experience.
