Currently, there are around 4.3 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 600,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.
A new role awaits
The Financial Governance and Compliance team is responsible for maintaining the Finance policies; ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and associated monitoring and reporting; and educating Agency staff on Finance policies and applicable legislation.
The APS6 Finance Governance and Compliance Officer will prepare advice and maintain the agency’s financial policies and financial authorisations and frameworks that support the NDIA’s objectives to “build a world-leading National Disability Insurance Scheme”.
These roles are being offered as Professional Stream (mandatory qualifications apply as below) or General Stream - as part of the application process you will be asked to select the category you wish to apply under.

As the successful candidate you will work under limited supervision to support the strategic direction of the Branch, Division Group and Agency.
Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Prepare advice and maintain the agency’s financial policies and financial authorisations and frameworks. Ensuring alignment with the Public Governance,
Performance and Accountability Act 2013
and the Commonwealth Resource Management Framework. - Develop and maintain education and communication on the agency’s financial policies and delegations, with a focus on reducing non-compliance
- Coordinate, support and maintain internal communication channels including liaising with stakeholders on projects.
- Preparing a range of well researched written material including guidance, reporting, and corporate documentation.
- Provide operational level of financial and technical advice in relation to a wide range of finance processes and systems.

Additionally, we’re looking for skills and qualifications essential to performing your duties including:
- CA or CPA qualifications.
- Well-developed stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to partner internal and external stakeholders
- Negotiates and influences effectively to support the delivery of quality agency outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to work well within teams to meet tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to think critically and contribute to business improvement strategies.
- Communicates effectively in writing and verbally. Understands the audience and context, anticipates responses and effectively tailors communication styles.
- Has an interest in learning, likes to innovate and has the ability to adapt to new processes and changing priorities.
Desirable skills, experience and qualifications
Understanding of key legislative requirements, including the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 and Superannuation Guarantee Administration Act 1992.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions, data analysis, pivot tables, and creating complex spreadsheets to support business operations and month-end reporting.
Mandatory qualifications
If this position is offered within the professional job stream the officer must possess relevant academic qualifications with membership of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA), Certified Practicing Accountants (CPA) or other equivalent professional finance bodies (or holding equivalent finance related post graduate qualifications); together with extensive direct finance experience performing and delivering complex financial and governance outcomes.

While this role is ideally performed from Geelong - VIC, Deakin - ACT, Robina - QLD or Richmond - VIC, flexible working arrangements may be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.
