This role is committed to improving outcomes for the benefit of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Miyay Birray Youth Service is seeking a motivated and compassionate Senior Caseworker to join the Moree Bail Accommodation Program. Your role will be based in Miyay Birray; however, the program will also be supported by Moree Shae Academy, Pius X Aboriginal Corporation and Youth Justice NSW.
In this role, you will work closely with young people, families and community stakeholders to provide holistic case management, as well as tailored culturally responsive program delivery. You will play an important role in giving Aboriginal young people from Moree the opportunity to positively engage with supports and develop as young people in their own community, in a culturally responsive and strengths-based way.
You will also be required to supervise the Caseworker Support Program (CSP) caseworker to deliver intervention to young people on supervision with Youth Justice, including day-to-day discussions, formal supervision, case plan reviews and report approval to ensure good quality intervention, duty of care.
What you will do
· Manage the Caseworker Support Program (CSP) caseworker in service delivery and programs ensuring efficient allocation of resources and ongoing performance management and development and identify opportunities to improve staff skills and capabilities that contribute to effective service delivery.
· Undertake Risk Assessment and Management to identify risk posed to the community by clients and how this can be minimised through intervention, supervision and risk management strategies and ensure the safety (physical and psychological wellbeing) of staff in the field and in the office.
· Provide culturally safe and trauma-informed case management and support to Aboriginal young people residing in the Bail Accommodation Program.
· Develop individualised case plans in collaboration with each young person, their family and relevant stakeholders.
· Work in partnership with families, community members, and Elders to support culturally appropriate responses to each young person's needs.
· Support young people to engage with various stakeholders and services such as health services, education, employment, family and cultural supports.
· Advocate on behalf of young people with government agencies, community organisations, and other services.
· Maintain accurate records, case notes, and reporting documents.
· Collaborate with other staff and partner organisations to deliver programs for young people.
· Participate in team meetings, supervision, training, and reflective practice to support continuous improvement.
· Support the implementation of risk management procedures and follow policy and leadership direction when responding to incidents.
· Contribute to creating a safe, structured, and caring environment within the accommodation setting.

Experience in leadership and management in particular supervising staff.
Genuine commitment to working with Aboriginal young people, their families and community in a culturally safe, respectful, and empowering way.
Empathy, patience, and the authenticity to build trusting relationships with young people.
· Experience working with young people and ability to adapt intervention to meet the responsive needs of complex clients (i.e., young people who offend and have a disability, mental health issues etc.)
· Demonstrated cultural capability, which includes lived experience, knowledge and understanding of contemporary social issues affecting Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander young people, including skills in identifying and/or responding to the diverse needs of Aboriginal young people experiencing significant trauma and disadvantage.
Interpersonal skills and communicating effectively with authenticity.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Good organisational and time management skills.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical practice.
Current NSW Driver’s License.
Current NSW Working with Children Check clearance.
Confirmation of Aboriginality form.
