About the Role
The Psychologist / Behaviour Support Practitioner will work with the client and their support team to develop positive, individualised strategies that: a) are responsive to the participant’s needs b) reduce the occurrence and impact of behaviours of concern and c) minimise the use of restrictive practices.
Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
Psychological assessment and intervention.
Delivery of behaviour support to clients in a way that complies with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Framework. This includes:
Behaviour Assessment work
Development of Behaviour Support Plans containing evidence-based, person-centred, proactive strategies that meet the specific needs of clients living with disability.
Working with client’s support networks (e.g. family, NDIS providers)
Training providers to implement positive behaviour strategies (and implement restrictive practices) according to NDIS requirements.
Working with multidisciplinary teams supporting the client.
Collaborating with other Psychologists in our team.
About You
Essential
A person-centred focus.
A genuine interest and passion for working with people who live with disability, particularly intellectual disability.
Current, general registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Psychologist / Clinical Psychologist.
Experience in the provision of behaviour support services to people with a disability.
Ongoing commitment to continuing professional development.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in high demand environments.
Satisfactory completion of safety screening including a current NDIS Worker Check, Working with Children Check, and the right to work in Australia.
NSW Driver’s License and registered, comprehensively insured vehicle.
Appropriate space to work from home.
Desirable
Current registration / eligible to receive registration as a behaviour support practitioner (at any level) with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).
Working knowledge of the NDIS (Restrictive Practices and Behaviour Support) Rules 2018.
Comprehensive behaviour support planning skills, including knowledge and expertise in conducting behaviour assessments.
Experience working with participants who live with intellectual disability and neurological and mental health challenges.
A working knowledge of the National Disability Insurance Scheme and relevant legislation.
Strong written communication skills to deliver effective plans and reports.
Flexibility, adaptability and ability to respond and adjust easily to changes in work demands.
The Package
A competitive salary will be negotiated, based on hours worked per week and the experience and qualifications of the applicant.
For the right person this could be a full-time or part-time position.
Location
We are a mobile service, and the successful applicant will work from their home, and travel to provide a service to participants living in the Newcastle and Maitland regions. You will provide a service to participants in their homes, schools, workplace, accommodation setting, or by agreement, in another location the client chooses. Car costs will be reimbursed on a per kilometre basis.
