The Rockhampton Grammar School is seeking reliable and professional Bus Drivers to join our transport team.

This role involves the pickup & drop-off of students with both morning and afternoon shifts available.

The Rockhampton Grammar School was founded in 1881 and is an independent co-educational day and boarding school, educating and caring for students from Prep to Year 12, as well as the Early Learning Years and is Queensland’s largest boarding school. The Rockhampton Grammar School has achieved great success in the academic, cultural, sporting and vocational fields over the past 144 years. The School has a total enrolment of over 1,500 (Prep to Year 12) students who are exposed to our broad curriculum, giving effect to our commitment of Grow in Character and Scholarship.

POSITION TITLE: Bus Driver

DEPARTMENT: Transport

CLASSIFICATION: Casual - Grade 4 ($35.16 per hour including casual loading)

REPORTS TO: Transport Co-Ordinator

BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for safely operating the School bus on a daily schedule

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This role entails working in a fast-paced environment, often under high pressure. Duties include:

Provide safe and timely transport services for the school community;

Perform daily safety and maintenance checks before first run off the day;

Perform minor maintenance duties, replenishing oils and coolants;

Clean the bus as scheduled and/or required;

Ensure the bus is safely and securely stored;

Ensure the school buses are in good operating condition at all times;

Report to Transport Coordinator of any requirements for maintenance or repairs;

Report all Traffic Infringements to Transport Coordinator as soon as practicable;

Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to Transport Coordinator as soon as practicable;

Pick up, drop off and collect students as per the daily schedule;

Take attendance on the school bus;

Ensure students are aware of the rules and responsibilities as passengers;

Maintain order, discipline and security on the school bus;

Make note of any behavioral or disciplinary problems;

Obey all laws, regulations and rules of conduct;

Work cohesively as a team member and as required, assist team members to ensure all work tasks are completed;

Ensure a safe and hazard-free workplace environment by reporting any health and safety hazards. Comply with the School’s occupational health and safety policy at all times;

Any other related duties as required by the Transport Coordinator.

SPECIFIC HEALTH AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

The position is a moderately strenuous job. The driver must sit for long periods and requires intense concentration, particularly in poor driving conditions.

Due to the nature of the position, weekend work, late night and broken shift duties may be required.

REQUIRED LICENCES/CERTIFICATES

Working with Children Check;

Police Check;

Safeguarding Children Online Training Certificate;

Current Full Driver’s Licence for manual vehicle;

Minimum MR Licence essential;

Driver’s Authorisation.

SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

The School takes child protection seriously, and as a staff member or volunteer of The Rockhampton Grammar School, you are required to meet the behaviour standards outlined in our Practice and Behaviour Guidelines. You will receive a copy of these guidelines as part of the induction process.

Therefore, as a part of your duties and responsibilities, you are also required to:

Provide a welcoming and safe environment for children and young people;

Promote the safety and wellbeing of children and young people to whom we provide services;

Ensure that your interactions with children and young people are positive and safe;

Provide adequate care and supervision of children and young people in your charge;

Act as a positive role model for children and young people;

Report any suspicions, concerns, allegations or disclosures of alleged abuse to management;

Maintain valid “working with children” documentation;

Undergo periodic “national criminal history record” checks;

Report to management any criminal charges or convictions you receive during the course of your employment that may indicate a possible risk to children and young people.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The successful applicant will be subject to a “Working with Children Check and Criminal Records Check” where applicable. The School undertakes several screening processes to ensure the appropriate protection of children and young people in its care. This includes reference checks, identity checks qualification check and professional registration checks.
