We strongly encourage and warmly welcome people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, people with a lived experience of mental health and disability and people who identify as LGBTIQA+ to apply. Even if you only meet some of the criteria, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Opportunity

Wellways, in partnership with APMHA Healthcare and GV Health, is excited to be working together across Greater Shepparton, Strathbogie, and Moira to strengthen mental health and wellbeing support across the region. Together, we're aiming to offer services that meet the unique needs of individuals in our community, whenever and wherever they are needed. Lived experience, inclusivity, and genuine collaboration are at the heart of everything we do.

As a Wellbeing Navigator Peer, you'll walk alongside people in our community on their mental health and wellbeing journey, offering guidance through a range of person-centred supports and services. You'll help individuals connect with what matters most to them, whether it's achieving personal goals, fostering healing, finding social inclusion, or strengthening their sense of belonging.

This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of mental health in Victoria - making sure everyone in our community is supported, included, and empowered.

Key elements of your new role will include:

  • Provide intentional, strengths-based peer support
  • Offer one-on-one support and care planning
  • Facilitate group peer sessions to build connection and confidence
  • Support people in building everyday skills and resilience
  • Help individuals engage with wellbeing and recovery supports

Please visit the Wellways Careers site to download a copy of the position description to see further details relating to this role.

We are seeking 3 dedicated Wellbeing Navigator Peers to join our team on a part-time basis (7 or 8 days per fortnight). We have two ongoing permanent positions available and one fixed-term role until 21st July 2026.

About You

You have personal lived experience with mental health challenges, psychological distress, and/or substance use, and you've navigated your own recovery journey. Through this experience, along with formal study or training, you've gained valuable insight that allows you to support others with empathy and understanding.

You share your story in a safe, respectful, and empowering way; helping others to feel seen, heard, and understood. You instil hope and support people in building connections and reinforce the strengths they already bring to their own recovery journey.

If your lived experience is at the heart of how you connect with and support others in our community, we'd love to get to know you!

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Personal experience of mental distress and accessing and navigating healthcare services, including mental health services and a willingness to draw upon your experiences and recovery journey to inform your work
  • Certificate IV/Diploma in Mental Health, AOD or tertiary qualification in social science or 1+ year relevant work experience in the Mental Health Sector or Intentional Peer Support Training
  • 100 points of identification
  • Evidence of right to work in Australia
  • Satisfactory National Police Check, Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willingness to undertake
  • NDIS Workers Orientation module certificate - free online course

Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals are free, voluntary, and easy to access, with no referral required. Importantly, these new services will be delivered on the basis of 'how can we help? and a 'no wrong door' approach, focused on giving choice and control over how people in our community want to receive support.

This service aims to make it easier for community members to access the support they need, closer to home and family, carers, and support networks.

Most importantly, Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals are safe spaces for everyone.

What we will offer you…

  • A purpose driven culture where people can thrive, everyone is respected, and differences are valued
  • An equitable, diverse, and socially inclusive work environment
  • Salary packaging up to $15,899 enables you to spend a portion of your salary before it is taxed to pay for things like rent, mortgage repayments, car leasing
  • Meal and Entertainment allowance via salary packaging up to $2,650 per annum
  • Receive 17.5% leave loading every time you take annual leave
  • Paid parental leave after 12 months of ongoing employment
  • Access for you and your family to our Employee Assistance Program
  • Eligible candidates may have access to incentive payments for relocation expenses as part of the Regional Mental Health workforce Grants Program administered by the Rural Workforce Agency Victoria (RWAV).

For a confidential discussion about the role, please contact Bill Deeble, Senior Wellbeing Navigator Peer on 1300 000 559.

We'd love to get to know you!

Please include a cover letter as well as a resume/CV in your application.

About Wellways

Benalla, VIC, Australia

Wellways Australia Limited is a leading not-for-profit mental health and disability support organisation with services in Queensland, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Victoria and Tasmania. Our services span mental health, disability and community care, and reach thousands of people each year.

We work with a diverse range of people living with mental health issues or various disabilities, and their families, friends and carers, to bring about positive change and build good lives in their communities. This can include creating a home, securing a job and building meaningful relationships.

Our mental health, disability and rehabilitation services bring together evidence from research with an understanding of people’s lived experience—what works for them. Our mental health workforce includes clinicians, nurses, community support workers and ‘peers’—those who have a lived experience of mental illness and recovery. Together, they create an environment that focuses on hope rather than illness.

We work in partnership with people and their families to identify their own needs and goals and support them to attain a great life in the community. Our partnerships extend to clinicians, GPs, hospitals, community health organisations and government, ensuring that our services and programs reach people in the communities in which they live.
