About The Role

Grampians Health is launching a new Early Parenting Centre in Lucas, Ballarat Victoria, offering day stay and residential (home stay) services.

These centres are specifically designed to support mothers, fathers, parents, carers, and families with children up to four years old, providing essential services through a dedicated nurse-led multidisciplinary team.

The foundation of high-quality and safe EPC service delivery relies on:

A robust nursing leadership team, led by Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Nurses, offering oversight and support for the multidisciplinary clinical team.

Our collaborative clinical team, anchored by MCH Nurses, registered nurses, registered midwives, and enrolled nurses, augmented by allied health professionals like social workers, psychologists, and specialists including Aboriginal health care workers and General Practitioners.

The service will provide flexible targeted services including group sessions, day stay, 4-night stay program, outreach and telehealth targeted to enhance the parent-child relationship and support parents with strategies to achieve their parenting goals.

As a Registered Midwife in the Grampians region, you'll provide woman-centred care aligned with the EPC's model. You'll collaborate within a nurse-led multidisciplinary team to promote maternal health and child development, implementing early interventions as needed. This includes supporting various parenting programs and assuming leadership responsibilities when necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical service to admitted families and implement the EPC model of care.
  • Pay an active role in the day-to-day implementation of the EPC model of care.
  • Actively participate in opportunities for further development and learning around early parenting practices
  • Work as part of the nurse led multidisciplinary team to support parents to achieve their parenting goals.
  • Maintain an understanding of parenting challenges and promote prevention, early intervention and help-seeking opportunities.
  • Recognise and promote factors that contribute to connection to culture and community diversity, and promote self-determination in decision-making.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Hold a current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Midwife
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in early maternal health and child health and development.
  • Demonstrated ability to strengthen client capacity to reach their goals.
  • Ability to work a rotating roster consisting of days and nights throughout the EPC.
  • Demonstrated understanding of broader issues, current trends and a range of possible strategies associated with the delivery of high-quality treatment modalities to people and families during the perinatal period
