The North Australian Aboriginal Family Legal Service (NAAFLS) is a not-for-profit organisation providing holistic legal and support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experiencing domestic, family and sexual violence. Our work is grounded in cultural respect, community collaboration, and self-determination.
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Indigenous Evaluation Officer to lead and support program evaluation and monitoring activities across NAAFLS. Reporting to the Data and Evaluation Manager, you’ll play a key role in ensuring that our evaluations are culturally safe, strengths-based, and aligned with Aboriginal ways of being, knowing and doing.
You’ll work closely with communities, staff, and leadership to embed evaluation practices that respect cultural protocols, amplify First Nations voices, and drive meaningful change.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a culturally safe Evaluation Strategy and Framework.
- Plan, coordinate and deliver evaluations of NAAFLS programs and services.
- Build strong, respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Translate data into accessible, culturally respectful reports and insights.
- Mentor and support staff in culturally appropriate evaluation practices.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and program effectiveness.
Selection Criteria
Essential
- Proven experience engaging respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce culturally sensitive and clear reports.
- A deep understanding of self-determination and strengths-based approaches.
- Excellent coordination, organisational and time management skills.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively in dynamic environments.
- Possess or be willing to obtain a Northern Territory Working with Children Clearance and a satisfactory Criminal History Check.
Desirable
- Experience designing or conducting evaluations in Indigenous contexts
- Familiarity with community-controlled organisations or DFV services
