About Your Role

The Drug and Alcohol Peer Support Worker will work in the specialist Community Drug and Alcohol service and:

  • Draw upon their lived experience of receiving treatment for drug and/or alcohol use and their own personal recovery, to provide peer support to people accessing Community Drug and Alcohol services. This includes actively and appropriately sharing knowledge gained through one's personal lived experience and recovery.
  • Support people accessing Community Drug and Alcohol services by promoting collaborative decision making, engagement, choice and empowerment in their individual treatment and recovery.
  • Work with colleagues in the multi-disciplinary team to ensure that the needs of people accessing the service are considered and they are involved in care decisions in all aspects of their treatment journey.
  • Use a strengths-based, trauma informed approach which holds the person at the centre of care whilst recognising the unique nature and boundaries of the role within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • The Drug and Alcohol Peer Support Worker is responsible and accountable to the local Community Drug and Alcohol Team Manager and will work collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary team to implement effective and planned peer support activities as agreed and appropriate within the service

The Drug and Alcohol Peer Support Worker is responsible and accountable to the local Community Drug and Alcohol Team Manager and will work collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary team to implement effective and planned peer support activities as agreed and appropriate within the service.

The Drug and Alcohol Peer Support Worker will also work closely with the Senior Drug and Alcohol Peer Support Worker for mentorship in relation to the delivery of their role and professional development. This includes participation in regular peer supervision.
