About the role

We are seeking Laboratory Assistants to join our dedicated core laboratory team within Molecular department at Bella Vista, NSW. The preferred applicant will be flexible, punctual, self-motivated and display initiative. Your role will be to participate in the day-to-day operation of the laboratory, working as part of a dedicated molecular night shift team.

The position will be:

· Casual

· Night shift 6pm-2am (may include weekend shifts as required)

Specific duties include:

· Preparation of specimens (swabs and sputum) for PCR.

· Cleaning and aseptic technique in all aspects of testing.

· Preparation of PCR reagents as required.

· Perform all procedures as documented in the Laboratory Procedure Manual.

· Maintain quality control of equipment, reagents and other duties as required.

· Good knowledge of laboratory operations including safety, operation of equipment and hands on practical experience performing laboratory skills and compliance with accreditation and quality assurance requirements.

· Ensure that equipment and laboratory work areas are clean and orderly.

Selection Criteria:

Essential -

· Australian Tertiary qualifications in medical laboratory science or equivalent (Cert III, IV and Diploma in Laboratory Techniques, Bachelors). All overseas qualifications MUST be assessed as equivalent to an Australian qualification by an appropriate body. TAFE or University students in year two/three of Bachelors (medical laboratory science or equivalent) encouraged to apply.

· Participation in a strictly night shift roster with potential for weekend night shifts.

· Ability to use a pipette correctly and adhere to aseptic technique.

· Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised and as part of a team.

· Proven customer service skills and excellent phone manner.

· Show initiative and have good analytical decision-making skills.

· Ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.

· Ability to interact and communicate well with doctors.

· High standard of verbal and written communication skills.

· An understanding of anti-discrimination, cultural diversity and EEO and WHS principles.

· Access to private transport (limited afterhours access to public transport)

Preferred –

· Experience with Molecular microbiology and PCR processes.

· Experience using ULTRA laboratory information system.

· Applicants with experience using Hologic Panther Fusion and Genetic Signatures platforms considered a bonus.
