GREENPEACE AUSTRALIA PACIFIC

Greenpeace is an independent campaigning organisation that uses non-violent, creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems and develop solutions for a green and peaceful future!

Founded in 1971, Greenpeace now operates as 26 independent national/regional organisations in over 55 countries, making it collectively one of the largest environmental networks on Earth. At Greenpeace Australia Pacific (GPAP), we're not just a team; we're a movement. By joining us, you're not just taking a job – you're seizing an opportunity to make a real-world difference.

This is a full time, permanent position. Open to candidates Australia wide.

THE TEAM

The primary goal of GPAP is to bring down the might of the fossil fuel order standing in the way of a sustainable future; this team's job is to produce engaging communications that fulfil this goal. You’ll join a skilled, dedicated and friendly team of four communications and media professionals, working in a fast-paced dynamic environment.

We expose environmental crimes, hold companies and governments to account, promote climate solutions and inspire others to create positive change.

THE ROLE

The Senior Communications Advisor will play a pivotal role in the development and implementation of comprehensive and sophisticated traditional and new media strategies. This will drive our stories into Australian and international media to tell stories from the frontlines of the climate crisis and build the global movement for climate justice.

In this role, you will also work with movement allies, Pacific communities, and international Greenpeace colleagues on campaigns across our climate and nature programs of work. You’ll be proactively creating and responding to media and creative communication opportunities that advance our campaigns and organisational goals, while shaping public perception of climate action and justice.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We’re looking for a highly driven and strategic communications professional - someone with outstanding writing and communication skills, and the ability to develop and implement sophisticated media strategies. You will also have proven experience and the skills to build deep and lasting relationships within the media, spokespeople, and with our allies.

You’ll also have:

  • Advanced level of knowledge and understanding of the Australian media landscape
  • Knowledge and understanding of the media advocacy needs of a campaigning organisation
  • At least five (5) years experience in a similar senior role in journalism, communications, or public relations
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of regional, state, national and international media
  • Deep understanding of messaging, narrative, and persuasive communications
  • Experience working in the climate, environment or advocacy space is preferred but not required

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • A role with one of the most well-known brands in the environmental NGO space, and the strength of the 50 years of Greenpeace behind you
  • A great work-life balance including 35 hour work week, integrity framework and generous leave conditions (including an additional week of paid leave between Christmas and New Years)
  • Genuine flexible working conditions including remote work or hybrid working arrangements
  • An incredible combined head office and warehouse space in Rosebery, Sydney. Plus, co-working spaces in Melbourne and Perth
  • A culture that celebrates inclusivity, belonging and diversity
  • An annual health allowance

Annual full-time salary: $116,562.56 per annum + 11.5% superannuation.
