Senior Java Developer | 6-Month Contract | Enterprise Cloud Transformation

We are partnered with a leading Australian consultancy delivering a major cloud transformation program for a large enterprise client. We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer who can work across complex, large-scale systems in a cloud-native environment.

You will be building and maintaining Java microservices, designing scalable APIs, conducting in-depth testing, and ensuring system resilience and performance across a secure, critical platform.

Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and deploy scalable and secure Java microservices using Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and Spring Data frameworks.

Implement and maintain RESTful API integrations, including working with SOAP APIs where required.

Perform comprehensive unit testing, integration testing, and API testing to ensure high system reliability and quality.

Conduct log analysis and error tracing using cloud-based tools like AWS CloudWatch, identifying root causes and ensuring timely resolution of system issues.

Work extensively with XML documents, including parsing, validating, and transforming XML data within service workflows.

Collaborate closely with DevOps and Cloud Engineering teams to optimize deployments using tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, and AWS native services.

Maintain detailed technical documentation, design specifications, and continuously review and update test cases to align with evolving system requirements.

Core Technical Environment:

Languages/Frameworks: Java 8+, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, Hibernate/JPA

Build/Automation: Maven, Gradle, Jenkins CI/CD pipelines

API & Integration: REST APIs (primary), some legacy SOAP API exposure

Cloud: AWS (EC2, S3, CloudWatch, Lambda desirable), exposure to Docker/Kubernetes beneficial

Databases: Relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Oracle), ORM mapping using Hibernate

Logging/Monitoring: AWS CloudWatch, ELK Stack (desirable)

Tools: Git, Bitbucket, JIRA, Confluence

Skills and Experience Required:

Strong hands-on experience developing enterprise-grade Java applications with a focus on microservices architecture.

Deep understanding of API design, build, testing, and documentation.

Expertise in analyzing system logs to troubleshoot production and pre-production issues, ideally in cloud environments.

Proficiency in XML processing and managing XML data across service endpoints.

Solid understanding of containerization concepts (Docker/Kubernetes) and cloud deployment models.

Strong adherence to secure coding practices and awareness of enterprise-level compliance requirements.

Experience working in Agile delivery environments, contributing to sprint ceremonies and technical solution discussions.
