About the role
This research project investigates how digital communication innovations developed during COVID-19 can be used to improve long-term digital inclusion for Australians with disability. Despite making up 20% of the population, people with disability were initially left out of official pandemic communications. In response, disability advocates developed inclusive digital strategies—especially through social media—that proved highly effective.
The project now aims to capture, analyse, and apply these innovations to shape future communication policy and practice. It is a collaboration with the Inclusive Design Collective and brings together experts from academia, government, and the disability sector.

Responsibilities include conducting nationally and internationally competitive and high-quality research in the relevant discipline/field, developing a coherent research program, participating as a co or chief investigator in applications for competitive funding, contributing to academic service and leadership, and fostering relationships with professional bodies, industry, government departments, and the wider community.

Selection Criteria
Essential

  1. A doctoral qualification in relevant discipline.
  2. Evidence of a record of research outputs/creative works in high quality refereed journals/outlets consistent with the discipline.
  3. Evidence of quality and impact of research outputs/creative works including journal ranking, citation indices, patents awarded, reputation and standing of publishing house or other outlets, independent review from distinguished scholars or critics, or equivalent esteem measures as appropriate to the discipline.
  4. Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross cultural sensitivity.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant and applicable policies, procedures and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the functions of this position.

Desirable Criteria

  1. A strong research background in critical disability studies, inclusive design, or related fields.
  2. Demonstrated ability to supervise HDR students
  3. A history of successful competitive grant applications.
  4. Editorial experience in managing a large edited collection or equivalent.

As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role.
