THE EMPLOYER

Our client is a global leader in digital intelligence and national security solutions, partnering with governments and Defence organisations to deliver secure, scalable systems in the most complex environments.

Due to the expansion of key projects within their National Security & Government portfolio, they are now seeking a contract AWS Security Engineer to join their Canberra-based team for an initial 6–8 month engagement.

This role offers high visibility and the chance to work alongside cloud and security experts delivering enterprise-scale solutions across multi-cloud and hybrid environments.

THE ROLE

As an AWS Security Engineer, you'll design and deploy security applications and infrastructure as code, integrate third-party tools, and support secure cloud operations. You'll work across key AWS services and tools — such as GuardDuty, Security Hub, CloudTrail, and Inspector — while contributing to the setup and optimisation of SIEM/SOAR solutions and threat detection pipelines.

You'll collaborate with developers, engineers, and SOC teams to enhance security monitoring, streamline onboarding of new data sources, and ensure compliance with established security standards.

REQUIREMENTS

NV2 Australian Government Security Clearance (ESSENTIAL)

Strong experience in AWS security architecture, tooling, and automation

Proficiency in deploying infrastructure and security applications as code (e.g. via AWS Pipelines)

Hands-on knowledge of tools such as Splunk, JIRA ITSM, Cribl Stream, and AWS-native services (e.g. Security Lake, CloudWatch, GuardDuty, Detective)

Experience in SIEM/SOAR environments and onboarding cloud/on-premise logs

Understanding of threat intelligence, network security, and security compliance frameworks

Strong consulting skills, including client engagement and documentation

A self-starter with the ability to work independently and in diverse, multi-disciplinary teams
