About the role

We’re looking for individuals who are natural co-ordinators & organisers who have a cultural association with reserves within the Bourke and Brewarrina local area: Culgoa, Gundabooka, Toorale, Brindingabba, Cuttaburra & Thurloo Downs Nationals Parks and Ledknapper and Nocoleche Nature Reserves. The position will work in partnership to contribute towards the conservation and protection of Aboriginal heritage and our natural environment. This pivotal role provides a wide range of executive administrative support services to support the effective liaison between NPWS and the Aboriginal Joint Management Committees and external stakeholders to deliver on NPWS commitments within the memorandum of understanding agreements (MoU’s) and Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUA), reserve plans of management and the decisions of the JMC National Parks Management Committees.

You’ll be relied upon to collaborate with key stakeholders to establish and manage joint management committees, provide executive and high-level administrative processes, and implement programs and projects to advance joint management objectives. You will also facilitate training, advocate for committee goals, and assist in the development of culturally relevant educational and tourism activities. About you

You’re a highly organised and motivated individual, with a strong knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and prior experience in working with Aboriginal communities. With a high level of attention to detail and a commitment to cultural relevance, you can effectively manage multiple tasks and assist in the successful delivery of programs and agreements. Your strong communication and problem-solving skills, combined with your ability to work both independently and as part of a team, will enable you to thrive in this role.

A knowledge of Joint Management arrangements and use of public estate to ensure that the cultural heritage, public safety, and flora and fauna remain protected; understanding of environmental issues and Aboriginal Cultural Heritage management will be highly regarded.

Essential requirements

  • is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
  • identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
  • is accepted as a such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
  • This is an identified role under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and as such Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role. Aboriginal identified positions are developed where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977) for Aboriginal people who meet the following criteria:
  • Current Australian Driver’s Licence and willingness to fly in light aircraft.
