The Role

The role of the EL 1 Health Policy Implementation Officer within the Directorate of Defence Health Policy is to work with health policy developers, Defence stakeholders and decision-makers to manage the implementation and evaluation of new and updated Defence health policies across Defence. This includes ensuring that endorsed policies and policy changes are appropriately approved by delegates; packaged for publishing; and supported through effective communications activities, artefacts, training and systems.

They will need to consider the needs of diverse audiences, including people from multicultural backgrounds and First Nations audiences, and develop targeted products and content that encourages and promotes health practices that support them.

They will analyse relevant data and information associated with policy implementation and its application, and prepare written submissions and other correspondence, with associated recommendations.

They will work collaboratively with stakeholders to manage, integrate and implement health policy and guidance across multiple channels, as well as resolve identified stakeholder issues.

They will be required to produce a variety of products, including implementation plans, briefs, communication/educational products, talking points and correspondence.

They may provide advice on health policies, health guidance and materials regarding specific health related matters.

About our Team

The Directorate of Defence Health Policy is a highly motivated, integrated team responsible for driving agile health policy development to meet Defence's needs in-line with strategic intent and best available clinical practice.

The Directorate manages a high volume of work to meet the health policy needs of Defence and is comprised of a number of subject matter experts in health policy within the Defence context. The EL1 Health Policy Implementation Officer will be part of the core team that coordinates and manages all health-related policy development, with a focus on post Steering Group endorsement implementation activities.

Technical expertise in a health discipline is an advantage, but is not critical for this role. A strong background in project management and / or delivery, as well as the ability to bring stakeholders together and influence outcomes is of greater importance.

Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate will have experience in developing a range of both strategic and tactical products that supports implementation of health policy across Defence's health domain.

They should have a passion for health care in order to drive successful implementation of a range of Defence health policies through implementation plans, creative communication/education products, and other health activities as required.

They will have attention to detail, along with strong written and verbal communication skills. They will need to actively manage multiple projects and stakeholders, manage competing priorities, and deliver outcomes.

They should be able to engage with stakeholders at all levels, and tailor their communication style to different audiences.

They will exercise a considerable degree of independence and perform a leadership role, exercising sound decision making and judgment to implement health policy and guidance.

They will engage in complex to very complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence.

Application Closing Date: Thursday 5 June, 2025
