What is the role?
The AFP’s corporate enabling services (human resources, finance and commercial, procurement and contract management and strategy, policy and governance; property and exhibits) are delivered through a tiered operating model. Service standards are set by the Chief Operating Officer (COO) portfolio, with generalist support/triage services being delivered through a centralised corporate helpdesk (Tier 1). Command-specific corporate services are delivered by co-located multi-disciplinary Command Corporate Service Units (CCSU’s – Tier 2). Strategic and specialist services are delivered by centrally operating centres of excellence (Tier 3).
This role leads a high performing CCSU to deliver diverse corporate services at Tier 2.
As a Corporate Business Partner (CBP), you lead by example, embodying the AFP’s values and inclusive culture and are willing to adapt and learn, and apply an intelligent, problem-solving approach to your work. You apply a strategic and practical lens to CCSU services requiring sound business principles to effectively and efficiently manage resources to meet the needs of the Commands priorities.
You are highly regarded for your contemporary leadership capabilities, effectively leading and managing a team of professional, unified and engaged corporate enabling services staff who stand together with the frontline. As an effective communicator and change management advocate you contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the AFP Code of Conduct, AFP Governance Instruments and other regulatory frameworks.
As an AFP Corporate Executive Level Leader work under the broad direction of both Senior Executives. You are responsible for shaping the AFP’s strategic direction through the professional services your team delivers consistent with the AFP values, the AFP Corporate Plan, AFP Core Leadership Continuum, and your Charter of Performance.
You have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the AFP business (or the ability to develop this), and the impact of corporate functions and roles to effectively manage operations.
You are a motivated, skilled, and client-focused professional, who is forward thinking in driving corporate excellence. Possessing high calibre relationship management skills, including the ability to provide insightful, persuasive and trusted advice to a diverse range of stakeholders.
You leverage your partnerships to connect locally, nationally and globally to share common problems and build sustainable solutions. Balancing strategic decision making while exhibiting sound judgement, a willingness to innovate and an appetite to try different approaches.
What will you do?
As a Corporate Business Partner, you are responsible for the leadership and management of a CCSU to deliver a range of timely, high-quality consistent strategic advice and support. In this role you contribute to the AFP’s broader CCSU network and the organisation’s corporate capability. You actively support the maturation of the CCSU model and build strong connections with national corporate areas. Your experience, knowledge and expertise is applied to enhance the AFP’s corporate capacity and capability in support of AFP operations.
Your responsibilities include the following:
- Leading an agile, multi-disciplined, high performing business area providing a range of corporate and operational support services to achieve the AFP’s strategic corporate direction. Cultivating a customer-centric, innovative, inclusive and diverse workplace culture.
- Effectively building and maintaining corporate capability, efficiency and productivity to deliver timely, high-quality, contemporary and integrated corporate services in a complex operating environment.
- Work collaboratively with COO Portfolio leadership and centres of excellence to effectively lead the delivery of high quality, relevant and timely corporate services in accordance with enterprise-wide strategy and Command-specific service expectations.
- Planning, prioritising and managing CCSU resources and workflows to ensure consistent application of corporate standards and responsiveness to organisational priorities.
- Embracing acceptable risk/s inherent in creating new ways of doing business, driving innovation while demonstrating effective leadership in managing risk.
- Planning, leading and managing the strategic, business and project activities of the CCSU.
- Assessing and evaluating policy and business improvement initiatives, identifying issues and implementing enhanced procedures and work practices.
- Modelling professional, ethical and leadership behaviours to all employees, and in the capacity of representing the AFP and CCSU.
- Building a strong business acumen to anticipate, respond and support the Senior Executive across complex Command-specific corporate matters.
- Representing the Command, the CCSU network, and/or corporate in key Reference Group Meetings and approaching discussions and negotiations with a strong grasp of key issues to deliver successful outcomes for the enterprise.
Essential Requirements
- Must be an Australian citizen
- Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one
- Demonstrated experience in providing high-level consultancy and partnership support to senior management teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Formal qualifications and/or substantial professional experience in corporate services.

- This position is an AFP Executive Level
- This position has been advertised in multiple locations, however the role is located in Sydney, NSW. Successful applicants must be willing to relocate to Sydney.
