The City of Port Lincoln is seeking a full time Youth Coordinator to fostering communication and collaboration among stakeholder organisations that support young people. By building and coordinating strong connections with schools, youth organisations, service providers and SAPOL, the Youth Coordinator will facilitate collaborative efforts that strengthen service provision and enhance systems that support positive outcomes for young people.

What does this Position do?
The Youth Coordinator will be a vital position in the development and implementation of the Youth Action Plan, fostering strong relationships with local schools, organisations, and service providers, and ensuring that initiatives effectively address the needs of young people in Port Lincoln. The position will focus on advocacy, engagement, and communication to empower youth and integrate their needs into both Council and wider community projects, programs, and events.
Key Objectives
Coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of Council’s Youth Action Plan and related actions/project delivery
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with youth and community stakeholder organisations, service providers, local schools and SAPOL
Represent Council on the ‘Supporting Youth Collective’ and collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities for partnerships and joint initiatives that support young people
Work collaboratively with stakeholders to map existing youth services, identify gaps, duplication, or opportunities for improved collaboration and service integration, and explore potential grant funding opportunities to support service enhancements and address identified needs
Provide Council with reports and recommendations on how to advocate for youth in the community
Creation and implementation of information and promotion strategies to raise awareness of youth-related issues, events and achievements and to ensure broad awareness of youth programs and initiatives available in the community
Work collaboratively with other Council departments to integrate youth needs into the development and implementation of projects, programs, and events and advocate for youth considerations in Council’s planning and decision-making processes
Source external grant funding for youth related initiatives and programs
Assist development and implementation of other Community, Culture, and Recreation programs, projects, and initiatives
Actively participate in training and WHS programs as required
Reporting of incidents, near miss, injuries, property damage and identified hazards
Taking reasonable care to protect their own safety and the health and safety of others
Follow reasonable instruction on health and safety and injury management
Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the position as assigned by your Supervisor.
Essential Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills
Demonstrated experience in working with young people, including engagement and program development
Experience in stakeholder management and collaboration with community organisations
Effective communication skills and ability to exercise discretion in the resolution of minor matters
Strong understanding of youth issues, trends, and best practices in youth engagement
Collaborative, with a strong ability to work across departments and with external partners
Innovative, with a focus on developing creative solutions to meet the needs of young people
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
A valid, or willingness to get Working with Children Check (WWCC)
Completion of, or ability to complete, ‘Through their Eyes’ child safe training
Highly regarded but not essential Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills
Relevant tertiary qualifications in youth work, community development, social sciences, or a related field
Knowledge and understanding of local government legislation, guidelines, and standards relevant to the area of operation.
Key performance indicators
Youth Action Plan Implementation: identified actions and initiatives are implemented within required timeframes with progress reported quarterly to the Team Leader, Community and Cultural Development.
Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration: Establish and maintain active partnerships with a broad range of stakeholders including but limited to local schools, organisations, or service providers monthly, evidenced by regular meetings, collaborative projects, and positive feedback from partners.
Supporting Youth Collective: Active participation on the ‘Supporting Youth Collective’ identifying opportunities considered for partnerships and joint initiatives that support young people;
