About the Role

Reporting to the Manager, Engineering Services, the Computer Systems Engineer supports the College of Science and Engineering by delivering high-quality technical solutions across teaching and research. The role involves designing and programming embedded systems, developing software interfaces, and providing support for a wide range of equipment and systems used in labs and workshops.

This is a broad and hands-on position suited to someone with strong software expertise who enjoys problem-solving and working across diverse technologies. From developing custom tools to troubleshooting and repairing equipment, you'll play a key role in keeping learning and research environments running smoothly.

The Computer Systems Engineer will also:

  • Provide advice, recommendations and feedback to staff & students on engineering software, operation of equipment, safety and practical engineering design considerations within teaching, research and other College supported activities.
  • Carry out and document repairs, maintenance, calibration to commercial & in-house constructed laboratory and workshop equipment and systems.
  • Prepare Workplace Health and Safety and compliance related documentation and supervision of the systems of safety on one or more teaching laboratories.

About You

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Computer Systems Engineer to join our team. As the successful candidate, you will hold a relevant qualification in Electronic or Computer Systems Engineering, along with experience in delivering electronic designs including embedded systems and software interfaces to devices. You will have excellent problem-solving and communication skills, along with the ability to work collaboratively with academic staff, researchers, and students. You will thrive in a dynamic environment where your problem-solving skills, initiative, and proactive attitude will be key to supporting innovative teaching and research.

As the successful candidate, you will also demonstrate:

  • Ability to liaise with a broad range of staff and students together with a demonstrated enthusiasm for customer service and the support of other team members.
  • Experience in delivering complex electronic designs including embedded systems & software interfaces to devices connected through internet, wireless, Ethernet, USB, CAN, SPI and I2C communications channels.
  • Experience implementing control systems and embedded signal processing algorithms (desirable).
