About the role
As a Youth Insearch Peer Worker, your life experiences living with mental health and trauma challenges and your personal recovery journey will provide the foundation to mentor and support at-risk young people (12-25 years) improve their health, wellbeing, and connection to community.
Peer Workers work within a multidisciplinary team assisting young people to access Youth Insearch Peer Programs which include 1:1 individual support, Weekend Workshops, Weekly Support Groups and Leaders Training.
Working as an integrated ‘youth hub’, Peer Worker and Team Leader - Social Workers will share a caseload providing a place-based model of support with to young people in the region.
Working with integrity, Peer Workers use their lived experience to advocate and support, both on an individual basis, and on a systemic level as required. You will also use your experience across the sector to support the organisation to navigate how it better supports young people using your lived experience. The reciprocity that is established between Peer Workers and young people will be respected; however careful handling of professional boundaries is also expected.
It will be imperative that as a lived experience practitioner, that you are able to draw on your experiences of trauma and have using your recovery journey to help guide practice and support.
Key selection requirements
Demonstrated working experience as a Peer Worker within the sector
Lived experience of trauma and demonstrated experience of recovery
A willingness to purposefully use your own story to help others further their own understanding of recovery
Qualifications (minimum in Certificate IV) in Peer Work, Mental Health, Community Work, Welfare or higher or Intentional Peer Support.
A personal lived experience of trauma and mental health, and aged 18-30 years.
A strengths-based and person-centred approach to communicating with others about their recovery journey.
Understanding of the challenges faced by young people who have experienced trauma and mental health challenges.
A strong understanding of your own self-care measures.
Ability to build relationships and maintain boundaries.
Understanding of, and ability to use Microsoft 365, and willingness to learn how to use the Youth Insearch Case Record Information Management system.
Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
Knowledge of community engagement practices.
Essential requirements
Qualifications (minimum in Certificate IV) in Peer Work, Mental Health, Community Work, Welfare or higher or Intentional Peer Support or equivalent
Working with Children Check for Employment Purposes (Paid)
Current National Police Record Check (disclosable outcomes considered)
Full vaccination against COVID-19
Current First Aid Certificate
A current valid driver's license
