Are you passionate about improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples? Do you want to help shape a more culturally safe health system grounded in respect, connection, and community voice?
We’re looking for a strong community-connected individual to join our team as an Aboriginal Health Consultant. This is a meaningful opportunity to lead change, strengthen partnerships, and champion community-led approaches across South Eastern NSW with a strong focus on the Illawarra Shoalhaven region.
In this role, you’ll work alongside general practices, Aboriginal Medical Services (AMSs), Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs), the Local Health District, and other partners to collectively design initiatives that support health, social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal communities. You’ll work closely with the Aboriginal Health Consultant based in the southern part of our region to ensure consistent and connected approaches across our catchment.
As part of the Primary Care Development team, you will:
Act as a key cultural advisor to our organisation
Help design and implement initiatives that make health services more culturally safe and accessible
Strengthen local partnerships and elevate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices in planning and decision-making
Guide cultural capability development and support our broader reconciliation efforts
You’ll bring cultural knowledge, lived experience, and strong ties to community—and we’ll provide a supportive, flexible workplace where your contribution is valued and respected.
Role Details
Working hours: permanent, full time (1.0 FTE) 38 hours per week
Supervisor: Associate Director, Primary Care Development
Remuneration: Band 3/Opening ($98,754)
Location: Wollongong or Nowra
