Are you passionate about supporting the emotional, social and academic development needs of students? Xavier College is seeking a dedicated College Counsellor to join our Evanston R-6 Campus. This role offers the opportunity to nurture students with purpose, contribute to our community and support the Salesian ethos and mission of the College.
The role is offered on a permanent, part-time basis. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 8.30am - 4.30pm for 41 weeks of the school year.
As the College Counsellor you will play a vital role in assisting students in addressing life challenges and developing strategies for personal growth and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
Be a vital part of the care support services available to students attending the College
Counsel students with emotional, social or academic difficulties to support their ongoing wellbeing
Act as a resource for teaching staff to develop strategies to support the wellbeing of students
Communicate effectively with parents and caregivers to discuss family issues that are affecting family relationships
Build partnerships with support professionals
Promote safety, wellbeing and a positive culture among children and staff
Maintain clear accurate case notes and files on all counselling interventions
Meet with leadership regularly to discuss relevant issues to student wellbeing

To be successful, you will need:
A University qualification in Counselling (or equivalent) and comprehensive demonstrated knowledge in a similar role
A current registration and/or membership of a relevant and recognised professional organisation/registration body
Have a strong background in case management, conflict resolution and managing critical incidents involving student welfare
Current and acceptable Working with Children Clearance and screening to work in Catholic Education SA
Catholic Police Clearance to work in Catholic Education SA
Current Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse & Neglect – Education and Care certificate
First Aid certificate (HLTAID012)
Possess enthusiasm, professionalism, and a strong sense of community
