ABOUT THE POSITION
As a Roads Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing third-party access to road, stormwater, cycling, and footpath infrastructure across the municipality. This key role ensures that access and restoration activities comply with Council’s engineering standards and relevant legislation, while also supporting the timely rollout of programs such as Road Naming and Alcohol-Free Zones.
You’ll act as the conduit between Council, developers, contractors, and the public - ensuring community safety, asset protection, and regulatory compliance.
DUTIES
- Assess and manage applications for road openings, footpath occupations, filming permits, hoardings, and other road reserve uses
- Provide technical guidance and enforce conditions under the Roads Act (Section 138)
- Monitor developer and contractor compliance, addressing non-conformance issues promptly
- Facilitate implementation of Council initiatives such as Road Naming and Alcohol-Free Zones
- Maintain accurate records, support public liability investigations, and contribute to policy reviews
- Deliver projects and programs on time and within budget, meeting quality, safety, environmental, and stakeholder expectations
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Strong understanding of the Roads Act, municipal infrastructure, and road authority responsibilities ideal
- Proven experience in managing access to and impacts on public infrastructure
- Sound understanding of road restoration standards, vehicular crossings, hoardings, and mobility access
- Current NSW Class C Driver’s Licence
