Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA) is a leading independent medical research institute whose vision is to prevent and cure disease and disability of the brain and nervous system through leadership, excellence and innovation in neuroscience research. Through the generous support of the Minderoo Foundation, we are excited to offer a unique opportunity for a dedicated Research Assistant to join our team. This full-time position is available for a maximum term of two years, reporting to Dr Claire Shepherd, Director, Sydney Brain Bank.
Supporting senior members of the research group, the successful candidate will employ a range of sophisticated biochemistry and molecular biology techniques to determine the impact of plastic chemicals and particles on brain health. Based at NeuRA’s state-of-the-art facilities in Randwick, the position offers the opportunity to participate in collaborative projects with our national and international research partners.
To Succeed in this role, you will need:
· A bachelor’s degree with honours or above in biomedical science, or equivalent qualifications in a related discipline
· A minimum 2 years’ laboratory experience, with a strong motivation to learn and apply new techniques
· The ability to work independently with minimal supervision
· Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate laboratory records and project documentation, manage consumables and inventory, and carry out ad hoc tasks to support senior research staff
· Proficient in Microsoft Office and analysis software (e.g., GraphPad Prism)
· Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment
· Experience in microscopy, immunoassays, and nucleation assays would be highly regarded.
Desirable Skills:
· Understanding of neuroanatomy and neuropathology
· Previous experience working with human tissue
