Manager Operational Training, Clerk Grade 9/10, Wollongong HQ – Temporary Part-time Opportunity (Parental Leave)

Lead a dedicated team in shaping the future of incident management training and resources, guiding NSW SES in building and maintaining its operational capability.

Work in a fast-paced emergency service agency, supporting communities of NSW.

This is a temporary part-time opportunity, 3 days per week from May 2025 to Feb 2026 (parental leave backfill)

About the opportunity

This is a part-time (3 days per week) job share opportunity. The portfolio will be managed between the two Managers ensuring outcome continuity via clear objectives and mutual support, including a weekly cross-over day.

In this role, as a leader of our Incident Management Training team, your primary role is to oversee incident management training development and delivery. This dynamic position involves coordinating the delivery of training programs, ensuring a solid foundation in incident management training, and engaging in stakeholder management across the agency.

Your wealth of experience will be put to good use as you develop programs that align with national qualifications and industry standards. You'll be an integral part of our broader training and development team, consisting of 12 dedicated staff, primarily located in Wollongong NSW.

Your expertise will be instrumental in managing a team to create and implement training resources, frameworks, pathways, and courses, ensuring that the NSW SES builds and sustains its operational capability in a challenging and dynamic environment.

The NSW SES serves the NSW community as the lead agency for floods, storms, and tsunamis as specified by the State Emergency Service Act 1989. We are recognised as the most versatile and widely used emergency service organisation in NSW. Our volunteers are highly skilled, experienced, and well- trained in the wide variety of roles they perform.

Each NSW SES Unit is as unique and varied as the community it serves, reflecting the vast mix of risks faced and roles required in the diverse locations and communities across the state. In addition to flood, storm and tsunami, our service provides specialist capabilities that include general land rescue, vertical rescue, road crash rescue, and alpine and remote area search and rescue.

The NSW SES has over 11,000 volunteer members, and a full-time workforce of over 450. There are 262 volunteer Units across the State. They are varied and unique in their capabilities, designed to address specific risks to communities of NSW.

About you

To be successful in this role you will:

Hold a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or equivalent) or higher-level qualification (and/or proven management experience) in Adult Education.

Ability to lead and manage a team effectively, preferably in the context of incident management or training.

Strong background in the development and implementation of training and professional development programs.

Proven experience in stakeholder engagement and management, especially in a diverse and dynamic environment.

Ability to thrive in a high-paced, constantly changing setting, where priorities can shift based on government directives.

Experience in leading small teams and managing demanding roles across a large portfolio.

An understanding of emergency service operations and/or Incident Management, capabilities is highly desirable.
