About the role
As a Finance and Payroll Officer at Groote Archipelago Regional Council, you will play a crucial role in managing payroll functions and accounts receivable / payable processes within the Groote Archipelago Regional Council. This role ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll, compliance with relevant legislation, and efficient management of financial transactions to support the Council’s operations. This full-time position is located in Parap, NT 0820.
What you'll be doing
Manage the end-to-end payroll process, including employee onboarding, leave administration, and tax compliance
Process payroll, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time
Maintain and reconcile payroll records and reports
Provide financial support and analysis to various directorates within the council
Assist with the preparation of financial statements and reports
Contribute to the development and improvement of financial processes and systems
Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations, and internal policies
What we're looking for
Certificate / Diploma / Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field; relevant experience of 3 years and above may be considered in lieu of formal education
Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar finance or payroll role, preferably within the local government or public sector
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, payroll processing, and financial reporting
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial data entry and reconciliation
Proficient in the use of financial software, spreadsheet applications and Microsoft Office Suite
Exceptional organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and prioritise tasks effectively
