About the Role
Provide expert planning advice, comprehensive assessment, and leadership in relation to development applications, appeals, politically sensitive requests, corporate activities and other matters, ensuring compliance with statutory timelines and promoting a consistent approach for planning assessment activities to achieve Council’s growth management and sustainability.
Lead and coordinate the provision of expert planning advice and the efficient assessment of development applications.
Provide strong leadership to staff of the Team through mentoring, coaching, training, advising, guiding, empowering and support to maximise the functional performance of the Team.
Project manage, process, assess and negotiate on a range of highly complex development applications as part of a multi-disciplinary team, in a timely manner, while maintaining a strong customer service focus.
Prepare high quality expert reports, recommendations, correspondence, briefing notes and information documents relevant to development assessment, appeals and other statutory matters.
Build and enhance professional working relationships, both internally and externally, that support and improve service delivery, communication, productivity and best practice community outcomes.
About you
Possession of recognised tertiary qualifications in urban planning, with demonstrated application of such learning in the workplace. Qualifications needed to satisfy membership status (or eligibility to become a member) of the Planning Institute of Australia.
You will possess strong project management skills and have significant experience in coordinating and delivering applications and projects requiring high levels of consultation, integration and negotiation to achieve successful outcomes often within a political environment and with stakeholders with competing interests.
You will also have extensive interpersonal and communication skills as an experienced senior leader with particular emphasis in the areas of advocacy, liaison, consultation, building effective relationships and cohesive teams, negotiation, conflict resolution and assertiveness with the ability to meet changing organisational needs within a diverse and political environment.
