Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a Career Educator to join Learning and Teaching Unit, Education Portfolio, Academic Division.
The primary purpose of the Career Educator is to provide timely and targeted services and strategies to support the career development and employability of all students and enable students’ connection with industry. The Career Educator will work in partnership with the SSTA Strategic Leads and Managers, STEM Educators, Language and Learning Educators, and other Career Educators from across the faculties to contribute to the work of SSTA strategic priorities including:
• Student partnership and peer programs
• Industry engagement, professional identity development, and work integrated learning (WIL) support
• Curriculum planning and resource development
• Student Success and Retention
• Learner Experience and Evaluation
• University-wide initiatives such as Orientation.
This position reports to the Manager, Career Development and Employability for career planning, development, and performance expectations.

About the Learning and Teaching Unit
The Learning and Teaching Unit (LTU) is committed to a culture of collaboration, working in partnership with students, industry representatives, and staff across QUT to meet the evolving needs of our learners. Guided by QUT’s Real World Learning Vision and Quality Standards for Learning and Teaching, LTU leads and coordinates learning and teaching across QUT, leveraging existing initiatives and enabling new ways of thinking and working that are learner-centric and future-focused. Student Success and Teaching Advancement (SSTA) works in partnership with faculties and divisions to deliver a connected and impactful student experience. This is achieved through the provision of university wide learning, careers and retention support services and strategies, and building an engaged community of innovative academic practice and learner focussed educational delivery using scholarly and data informed approaches. SSTA is a large section within LTU employing more than 120 academic, professional and sessional staff, and student partners.
What you need to succeed
- Education, training and/or experience equivalent to a degree in a field related to career development practice, with at least four years’ experience demonstrably consistent with the competencies set down in the Professional Standards for Australian Career Development Practitioners.
- Proven experience in promoting and teaching others to develop the strategies needed to engage effectively in career development and employability in physical (face-to-face) and virtual environments.
- Demonstrated understanding of the issues which affect adult career development, retention and success in higher education, as well as a commitment to working from a social justice framework.
- Demonstrated ability to work in close partnership with a diverse range of student, staff, and industry stakeholders at all levels of an organisation and from culturally diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work in a team coordinating career development and industry facing programs/projects/initiatives, and to respond flexibly to rapidly changing educational situations.
- Highly effective written, verbal and digital communication skills, including facilitation and presentation expertise and the ability to create high quality, and engaging digital learning resources.
