Property and Maintenance Manager (or Supervisor / Coordinator) – Mount Macedon Winery (MMW)
Location: Mount Macedon, Victoria
Full-time or part time (30 hours), Permanent Position
Monday to Friday (9am to 4:30pm). Hours / days are flexible for the right candidate.
Mount Macedon Winery (MMW) is seeking a highly motivated, experienced hands-on Property and Maintenance Manager (or Supervisor / Coordinator) to oversee and improve the farm operations encompassing vineyard, homestead, agriculture, two operating restaurants and busy wedding event spaces including barn, garden surrounds and more, ensuring efficiency and productivity across all aspects of the property. We are also open to recruiting a more junior position (Supervisor or Coordinator) for the right person who wants to grow into the role. The ideal candidate will be proactive, organised, an excellent communicator and able to execute tasks and projects independently (or in collaboration with external contractors and team members). We are looking for someone with an exceptional eye for detail who takes pride in the finish and quality of their work. We want our venue to always showcase its beauty for our guests and wedding couples – we want someone who is excited and relentless in the pursuit of excellence.
As the Property and Maintenance Manager (or Supervisor / Coordinator), you will play a key role in maintaining and developing the Mount Macedon Winery property, ensuring the venue’s aesthetics, grounds, and infrastructure are in top condition while also supporting the operational needs of MMW. You will manage various tasks, ranging from farm maintenance gardening, lawn care, fencing, machinery and equipment upkeep, and more, all while working to keep the business goals and budget in mind.
Key Responsibilities:
Grounds & Property Maintenance: Oversee general garden maintenance and improvements which include planting, pruning mulching, mowing, and weed management across the farm, paddocks, gardens, and vineyard.
Venue Aesthetics: Ensure the venue’s exterior remains tidy and visually appealing for premium guest experience including weddings (hosting approx. 70 per year & restaurant venues open 5 days a week)
Leadership*: mentor, develop and manage the team of direct reports (including maintenance, handy person / gardener) ensuring strong communication and high standards are met.
Machinery & Equipment*: Operate, maintain (including an up-to-date servicing schedule) and basic repairs of farm machinery, including tractor, skid steer, excavator, tip truck, UTV buggy, forklift, chainsaws, general farm tools right through to coordinating kitchen equipment and appliances, bar equipment, fridges and alike.
Project Management*: Assist the Director in executing improvement projects in line with the Master Plan, managing timelines and external contractors as required.
Reporting & Documentation: Regularly inform business manager and owners on project and task list progress, manage and update task lists, and maintain accurate records.
Health, Safety, Wellbeing & Compliance: Ensure the safety of staff, contractors and patrons by adhering to our safety and compliance policies including incident reporting, safety protocols and processes.
*the duties marked with an asterisk will be adjusted for the successful candidates’ experience (i.e. a more junior candidate may be employed as a Coordinator and won’t need to lead the team necessarily or have experience with all the machinery – but will have the willingness to learn!)
Essential Skills & Qualifications (these are negotiable for the right candidate):
Proven experience in property maintenance, in particular alike venues such as wineries, wedding or hospitality venues, private large gardens, with a focus on property systems including irrigation, fencing, basic carpentry, and machinery operation.
Skilled in the safe use of power tools, chainsaws, tractors, UTV, and other farming equipment, including spray units and chemical handling.
Financial literacy to manage budgets, ensure cost efficiency, and track expenditures.
Strong communication skills with a professional approach to interacting with owners, contractors, and team members.
Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities or weather conditions.
Technology-literate, including basic office software for reporting and documentation.
A valid driver’s license is essential and relevant machinery operating licenses (e.g., forklift) preferred but not essential.
Personal Attributes (not-negotiable):
Exceptional communication skills with a proactive approach to providing status updates and keeping the Directors informed.
Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and a willingness to work both independently and as part of a team.
Extraordinary attention to detail – this must be your superpower as we have unapologetically high standards.
Positive attitude and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
Ability to manage tasks/projects from start to finish with attention to detail and a focus on efficiency.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
Passionate about hospitality and agriculture and interested in contributing to the long-term success of Mount Macedon Winery.
