Established in 1979 by the Ballarat Aboriginal community in the Ballarat district, BADAC’s vision is to be the strongest voice and presence in the Ballarat area, supporting and respecting their people, enhancing our community, growing their culture and honouring their heritage. BADAC is the Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisation (ACCO) for the Ballarat and District area, covering 4 local government areas (LGAs). The organisation is extremely proud of the contribution and support they have provided the local Aboriginal community over the past 40 years delivering a comprehensive range of health, social, welfare and community development programs to local Aboriginal people.

The Role

The role of the BADAC Community Home Support & NDIS Support Worker is to work under the direction of the NDIS and Community Home Support Services Manager and ensure the provision of home support services including: NDIS Community outings, cultural and social skill building & Domestic Assistance and Respite to clients of the BADAC Community Home Support Services Program.

The BADAC Community Home Support & NDIS Support Worker will have the added responsibility of assisting the Community Home Support Program and NDIS Co-Ordinator in the facilitation of Elders meetings and planned activity groups.

A sound knowledge of Aboriginal culture & society & an ability to communicate effectively & sensitively with Aboriginal people is highly desirable for this position

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Ensure Commonwealth Home Support Program services for the aged Elders of BADAC community are delivered with a person-centred approach.

Assist participants or elders to develop desired skills set out in their NDIS or CHSP plans. Such as cooking, nutrition, personal care, budgeting, shopping, domestic skills (including dishes, vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms, kitchens) maintaining tenancy, using public transport, etc.

Assist participants / elders with the creation of daily/weekly plans to assist in reaching their goals as needed.

Planning and facilitating recreational activities and assisting participants in social and community participation.

Assist participants and elders to develop and maintain positive healthy relationships with service providers, support teams, family and friends.

Provide support services to participants and elders in line with NDIS and Commonwealth Home Support Program goals.

Keep accurate and up to date case notes on participant’s progress.

Work within the NDIS and Commonwealth Home Support Program guidelines and escalate relevant information to coordinator or manager as appropriate.

Maintain clear professional boundaries with participants and elders and ensure Work Health and Safety guidelines are adhered to.

This position is a risk-assessed role likely to require more than incidental contact with people with disability and may include, building a rapport with a person with disability as an integral and ordinary part of the performance of normal duties.

Participate in supervision meetings with the Community Home Support/HACC-PYP and NDIS Program Manager as required.

Key Selection Criteria:

Sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture or demonstrated ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and complex needs.

Certificate III in Individual Support/Personal Care and/or equivalent qualification would be beneficial but not essential.

Ability to empower clients to learn basic life skills and support them to achieve their program goals.

Excellent interpersonal, communication & computer skills.

Sound Knowledge of OHS policy and standards.

Sound time management & budgeting skills.

Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.

Current Victorian Driver's License
