The Department of Housing, Local Government and Corporate Development (DHLGCD) provided support services across housing, homelands, town camps and remote communities, local government, interpreting and translation services.

Operating within the Department, the Legislation, Policy and Governance team provide guidance and advice to local government councils and stakeholders regarding local government legislation.

As a Senior Legislation and Standards Officer your primary objective is to effectively generate legislation according to government priorities, including high-level critical analysis, strategic advice and support across a wide range of legislation and governance issues impacting the local government sector.

Your key duties include undertaking research and providing strategic advice on legislation and policy issues, participating in the development, review and implementation of legislation, policies and projects, and managing high-level documentation such as Ministerial briefings and drafting instructions.

You will also be required to provide secretariat support to committees, working groups and develop effective collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.

This role will make good use of your high-level knowledge of contemporary legislation, policy and political issues, your strong advisory and written communication skills, your ability to manage complex and sensitive projects, and your effective cross-cultural communication skills.
