About the role:

Our Malaga Workshop is a purpose built Centre of Excellence facility for the overhaul, re-build and testing of EMD locomotive Engines in Western Australia. The position of Trades Assistant forms a key component of the service team primarily responsible with ensuring that parts are ready for the trades person's on the production floor.

Your Primary Responsibilities will be:

• Clean, buff and paint components and parts.
• Operate machinery, as required, in order to perform tasks, where qualified and licensed.
• Perform manual tasks as required, including safe working duties as a rail industry worker.
• Undertake, as instructed by your Team Leader, tasks which may be incidental & peripheral to rail industry and your trades assistant role.
• Workshop housekeeping tasks, ensuring a clean and safe work environment Commitment to a Zero Harm workplace that promotes an excellent team work attitude.

Skills & Experience

• Proven ability to organize and prioritise tasks, be flexible and resourceful, proactive and professional in manner with a high degree of initiative.
• Ability to work unsupervised and be a hands on team player.
• Be mechanically minded.
• Strong communication skills.
• Experience working with heavy machinery or Locomotives (Desirable).

Qualifications & Training

• Background in an industrial or manufacturing environment desirable.
• Driver’s license (essential)
• Forklift license (desirable)
• Dogging and/or Rigging (desirable)
• Have Australian Work Rights
