Fishheart Ltd. Is looking for a motivated and self-sufficient Fishheart Systems Operator to operate our unique mechanical fishway on the Lower Darling-Baaka for the next two years and beyond.

Fishheart Ltd. is a Finnish based company that produces and operates its patented fishway systems across the globe. The Fishheart system is a unique solution, enabling migratory fish to return to their spawning habitats in river systems that are disrupted by physical barriers such as hydropower plants, dams and weirs.

Fishheart is working together with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development New South Wales to contribute to the rejuvenation of the Murray Darling River system. Currently, we are operating our fishway on a seasonal basis at the Lake Wetherall outlet regulator site in Menindee, NSW.

Job Description

Our Fishheart Systems Operator is responsible for all technical aspects in relation to operating our fishway. The Fishheart fishway is a complex mechanical unit that requires full time monitoring, fine tuning, cleaning and maintenance to ensure the success of providing fish passage at the Lake Wetherall site, a key identified blockage in the Darling-Baaka river system.

The Fishheart Systems Operator is responsible for monitoring and troubleshooting the mechanical unit via regular inspections, reports and recalibrations to ensure the system is running at its peak performance.

The Fishheart Systems Operator, together with our project management team also plays a key role in the commissioning and decommissioning of the unit at the beginning and end of each season, performing start and end of season checks and routine maintenance.

The Fishheart Systems Operator will be based in Menindee, north-western NSW for 6 months per year and will operate alone at a remote worksite during the summer months. Fishheart Ltd. will provide accommodation and a vehicle for the duration of on-site work.

After the conclusion of our contract with DPIRD NSW, the Fishheart Systems Operator will be responsible for training and developing new Systems Operators for future deployment around Australia.

Qualifications, Requirements and Experience

The Fishheart Systems Operator must have the following qualifications and knowledge to be a successful applicant:

· A valid NSW White Card for work in construction

· Advanced knowledge of hydraulic electrical systems

· Advanced operational knowledge of technical mechanical assets such as generators, pumps, valves and actuators

· Experience working in remote locations

· Experience of WHS and Environmental protocols related to working in sensitive natural environments

· Advanced knowledge of Australian freshwater fish species

· Advanced knowledge of migratory fish behaviors

· Understanding of AI and logic bases software programs

· Experience working with fish passage systems including a deep understanding of key concepts such as attraction flow, water pressure and efficiency parameters

· Fluency in both English and Finnish languages including work specific technical uses of each language

· A valid working visa if the applicant is not and Australian permanent resident

· Familiarity of the Far West NSW region
