Senior Planning Advisory Officer
Location: Hurstville, NSW
Salary: $81,546.21- $94,483.59 + Super
Work Type: Full Time, Permanent

Public Sector People are partnering with Georges River Council to recruit a skilled and customer-focused Senior Planning Advisory Officer. This is a key position for a planning professional who thrives on delivering excellent service and providing accurate and timely advice to customers and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Coordinator Advisory & Specialist Assessment, your role will focus on:
- Delivering expert advice on planning legislation, policies and development applications
- Managing the duty planner service, pre-lodgement advice, and formal planning enquiries
- Ensuring high standards for application lodgement and supporting the planning portal
- Providing training and guidance to customer service staff
- Preparing and issuing zoning (Section 10.7) certificates
- Contributing to continuous improvement in advisory and assessment processes
- Supporting strategic planning, policy development, and internal planning referrals
You’ll Bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Town Planning or a related discipline
- Sound understanding of the NSW planning system and application processes
- Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex planning matters
- A passion for customer service and continuous improvement
- Experience working in or with local government
- Familiarity with heritage and court procedures (desirable)
- Collaborative team spirit and a solutions-focused mindset
