An exciting opportunity presents for the right person to join our supportive team and help Bunbury Harvey Regional Council (BHRC) transition into the future of waste management.

Bunbury Harvey Regional Council (BHRC) manages waste for the City of Bunbury and the Shire of Harvey in the Southwest region of Western Australia. The BHRC is a statutory local government authority that delivers effective, efficient, and environmentally sound waste management practices. The primary purpose of BHRC is waste recovery and disposal. It is not responsible for waste collection services, which remain the responsibility of the individual Councils’. BHRC owns and manages the Stanley Road Waste Management Facility, and The Banksia Road Compost Processing Facility

Duties /Responsibilities

Ensure the daily operation of the Waste Facilities are in accordance with the Site’s Environment Protection Authority issued licence, Site Operation Manual and all other relevant legislation, regulations and guidelines.

Ensure all bins in the Waste Transfer Station are serviced regularly to prevent the overflow of bins

Undertake actions to manage and contain all litter within the site

Carry out effective litter removal service as required at the Waste Management Facilities

Carry out effective weed control service at the Waste Management Facilities

Perform duties as required for the HHW collection

Assist transfer station customer to guide them in the correct use of the facility

Coordinate traffic movements

Provide recycling information to customers

Sale of goods to customers in the Recycling Shops

Promote and assist with material separation

Picking suitable items for the Recycling Shop

Operate machinery when required and trained

Maintain the tidiness of the recycling area

Maintain general tidiness and maintenance of the transfer station

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential Criteria (to be considered for this role you must demonstrate the following skills and experience)

Current and valid Western Australia ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence

Strong customer service ethic and skills

Ability to identify and handle conflict in a positive manner

Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Demonstrate skills in managing time, planning and organising of own work

Demonstrate the ability to work within a busy team environment

Ability to follow strict work, health and safety requirements

Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team to meet delivery outcomes.

Punctual, reliable, hardworking and willing to learn.

Ability to work with minimal supervision

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

Electrical Test and Tag Competency Qualifications

Minimum of a current Western Australia Heavy Rigid (HR) truck licence

Competency qualification of Basic Worksite Traffic Management and/or Traffic Control

Current National Accredited Forklift Ticket or Competency Qualification

Skid Steer Loader Competency Qualification

Considerable relevant experience in the Waste Minimisation Industry

HR licence

Relevant training in manual handling

Current National Police Clearance Certificate or willingness to obtain

Employment Considerations (to be considered for a position at the Bunbury-Harvey Regional Council, applicants must be able to satisfy the following appointment prerequisites by providing):

Completion of identification checks

Current Senior First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain

Hold the appropriate rights to work in Australia

Allow for verification of qualifications

Completion of Pre-Employment Medical

Production of appropriate motor vehicle licence, professional memberships and other relevant cards or licences as required
