The Goulburn Broken CMA is seeking applications from energetic and experienced individuals to join us in the role of Sustainable Irrigation Program Manager.

Part of the Executive Team and reporting directly to the CEO, this key leadership role is responsible for driving and leading the development and delivery of strategic initiatives and programs principally within the catchment’s Shepparton Irrigation Region (SIR) to achieve legislative requirements in line with regional, social and environmentally balanced outcomes.

The position will drive alignment and integration of strategic projects and initiatives with the Regional Catchment Strategy (RCS), legislative responsibilities for SIR Land and Water Management Plans (L&WMP), to pursue improved sustainable irrigation outcomes across the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District (GMID).

The position will also work across the Goulburn Broken catchment ensuring engagement with key stakeholders and the integration of river health, biodiversity and broader catchment health into the sustainable irrigation program objectives. This will mean at times that the Program Manager will lead theme initiatives, major projects or new business scoping across the Catchment area and the state.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree or greater qualification in science, environment, engineering, Natural Resource Management (NRM), or a relevant discipline or equivalent experience

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of current thinking and practice in water use efficiency and irrigation, sustainable agriculture within an irrigation environment

Experience in resilience approaches and community capacity building at a level which can inform and/or assess strategic decisions and directions

Project Management

Demonstrated experience in the successful design and delivery of NRM programs and/or large-scale projects, including the ability to obtain funding

Demonstrated experience of project management, covering across organisational issues, broad community concerns and exposure to government working parties

Demonstrated ability to embrace change, creating new systems, challenging status quo to improve things

Effectively managing people, to deliver large and/or complex projects – adapt to changing situations and expectations

People and Partnerships

A focus on teamwork and collaboration across our organisation to develop strategic alliances with partners and the regional community.
A high level of demonstrated people management and inter-personal and relationship-building skills with the capacity to delegate appropriately and effectively, whilst maintaining a strong organisational culture.

Ability to motivate staff within an organisation to optimise performance.

Strong track record and well-established skills in facilitation, negotiation and relationship management at a management level, particularly in community engagement and government departments
