About Finance and Audit & Assurance
The Finance and Audit & Assurance Unit sits within the Strategic Operations Group and report to the Chief Financial Officer. The Finance and Audit & Assurance team contributes to the operational and long-term sustainability of the Institute. The Finance Team is responsible for the financial management of AIATSIS including internal financial control, Accountable Authority Instructions and financial delegations, administrative procedures, accounts payable and receivable, asset management and external and internal budgeting and reporting. The Audit & Assurance team is responsible for the development and implementation of government compliance requirements such as privacy, freedom of information, public interest disclosure, risk management and fraud prevention activities.
About the Role
There are 2 roles available within this recruitment process
- Senior Finance Officer – supervises day-to-day finance and reporting activities as well as preparing financial statements.
- AR/AP Supervisor – provides leadership and supervision to the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable teams. They also develop and maintain policy and procedure as well as leading stakeholder engagement.
Key responsibilities of the roles include:
Senior Finance Officer
- prepare monthly internal and external reporting requirements.
- supervision of the day-to-day finance activities including accounts payable, receivable, travel, asset management, capital-spending program, budgeting.
- ensure financial and procurement activity is accurately recorded and is consistent with contracts, budgets, guidelines, and accounting standards.
- assist with system implementation changes and business improvement activities.
- produce structured and ad-hoc reports, memos, policies, procedures, and analysis on financial performance for internal and external stakeholders.
- preparing taxation returns (including Business Activity Statements, FBT) and providing advice on tax issues.
- assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports including content for the Annual Report, Audit Assurance Committee, Council and Portfolio Budget Statements.
- provide timely and accurate advice and support to staff, management, and clients.
AR/AP Supervisor
- supervision and leadership of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, ASP Distribution and ASP financial management for AIATSIS.
- ensure effective and efficient processing of the accounts payable and accounts receivable cycles by providing functional, technical and process leadership.
- support the team in preparation of day-to-day finance activities including procurement, travel, credit card, investment, and asset management.
- preparation of monthly reporting activities including month end journals and reconciliations.
- preparation of external regulatory and legislative reporting.
- development and maintenance of relevant policy and task card documentation.
- build and maintain effective relationships with contractors, consultants, internal and external stakeholders.
- provide timely and accurate advice and support to staff, management, and stakeholders.
Our Ideal Candidate
To be successful in these roles, you will possess strong coordination, liaison and relationship management skills as well as 2-3 years accounting experience. You will come with the following skills, experience and attributes:
- hold a bachelor’s degree inCommerce
Accounting
Related field - hold or are working towards CA/CPA certification.
- 2-3 years relevant work experience in an accounting role.
- excellent judgement, strong attention to detail and an ability to manage multiple priorities and respond flexibly in a shifting work environment.
- excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to build and sustain strong networks and relationships within the agency and with external stakeholders.
- ability to improve and streamline business processes.
- demonstrate strong coordination and technical capability.
