About the Role

The Family and Youth Community Development Officer leads initiatives to actively engage culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) parents, children and youth, facilitating their participation in the Parents Advisory Group, empowering children’s voices and youth leadership programs. This role coordinates the Parents Advisory Group, engages children in advocacy projects, and designs and delivers innovative programs that strengthen youth leadership capabilities.

Success in this position relies heavily on building strong relationships and effectively engaging with diverse stakeholders from new and emerging and established communities. The role implements targeted engagement strategies to connect with CALD parents, children and youth through multiple channels, including collaboration with community leaders, digital outreach, and participation in community activities.

Working closely with other Community Development Officers in the team and key stakeholders, this position identifies emerging community needs and develops customised responses. The role requires a collaborative approach to create and deliver culturally appropriate programs that meet the unique needs of CALD families and young people.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work or relevant Discipline and/or 2 years working experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in the delivery of culturally responsive Community Development projects.
  • Experience working with parents with children and young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge and skills in building clients’ capacity in leadership.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the multicultural sector including relevant government policies and programs.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to deal constructively with complex and sometimes conflicting situations.
  • Highly developed written and computer skills across a range of application including client records management systems.
  • High-level of planning/ time management skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate innovation and creativity in program delivery.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in Early Childhood and/ youth work
  • Lived experience highly regarded
